Hi Gurus! I have tried different tricks to install 10.2 to my 9500/Sonnet G4/800 No matter what i do, always same error before installation starts: Can´t open scsi -int/@ 0: 6. I changed target disk, same error @ 2:6. Tried different throttle, ram changes, cuda switch, with and without other devices, with Ati radeon 7000, Ati mach 64. I´m using XPF 2.2.5b.7.1 . After error i can boot with option to Os9, but when i scroll window in Os9 it will freeze the system. These problems are quite strange because i had lot of troubles in install with Sonnet pci x 1.2.5 driver before i found XPF and installed many systems without any trouble with it. I don`t know much about Unix command lines ... yet Thanks in advance Matti |

Hi! You are absolutely right, the drive is IBM 9Gb, it worked in external scsi box and other slower inner scsi ok but when i change back to faster bus i get error can´t open etc.. So i take older drive Quantum 8Gb where 10.2.3 was already used with Sonnets startupdiskX. I installed XPF, all went great until i fool put in CachecontrolX and enabled it at startup. After that system get very unstabel an locks up after 30 min use. I found somewhere tip that in G4 i cant put cache control on, so i take it off and removed it to trash. There is still left some mysteries freezes, perhaps i must perform clean install of eveything to Quantum drive with XPF, first i will interleave memories back. I reply when i know more. Greetings Matti |

What brand of hard drive do you have? With some of the IBM SCSI drives, you need to change the 'Disable Unit Attention' jumper on the drive in order to get cold booting to work. The other thing you could try is command-control-powerkey when you get the error message (i.e. the "can't open ..."). That sometimes does the trick. |

I formatted with Apple Os9.1 disk utility, apple extented format 7,9 Gb partition. Removed all other disks even Cd drive, terminator in that last and only disk. Always that same error. Next thing i try to install X in other Mac 9600 and then change disk back to 9500, reinstall XPF extensions. Should it work? |

Sounds like hard drive is indeed the problem. Best to do is format within 9.1 using either Apple Drive Setup or Intech's software. Since the drive is SCSI, the 8GB limit does not apply. Also check termination on your internal SCSI chain. Only the last drive on chain should be terminated. If all else fails other have had luck by changing to the slower SCSI internal chain. Other factors can include CD-ROM drive not being native Apple. Good Luck |

Have you formatted your HD with a funky piece of software? Apple's and Intech's are alright for OS X, but FWB's is not. Also, have you formatted the drive and made sure to have your OS partition within the first 8 GB of the drive? |
