I am attempting to install 10.0.4 as a base install onto my 7300/G3 400/512. 256 MB Ram and a single 2 gig boot drive (original). I am using the latest XPF to date and have 1.49 gig open on the drive. The problem is as it gets to the Installing Mac OS X, the screen goes all blue. the mouse pointer is still there and is addressable, but that's all you can do. Move the pointer around a big, blue screen. Any suggestions? I have tried different throttle speeds to no avail. Kind of getting desperate here. I need to get X on this machine to get work done. So help! Thanks, jim temple |

72350.3014: The problem is probably with the formatting utility--you may need to reformat in either Apple's Drive Setup or Intech's Hard Disk SpeedTools. Jim.Temple: Now it sounds like you are getting as far as the Mac OS X Installer. That is, you do boot Mac OS X and are able to make some choices in the Installer before everything goes blue? In that case, the most common cause for problems during an install is memory-related. You could try swapping out some DIMMs to see if that helps. |

I am using 7300/180 with sonnett G3/400 512K upgrade card + 512 Mb Ram. I am running 10.2. now. Recall my memory when I first install 10.0, I have to take away all cards use only the on baorad video CD Rom and use apple disk tool to reformatted the hard disk before I can install sucessfully. But once I upgrade to 10.0.3 or later I still hav e to take away the Vodoo 3 crad to install but can leave the USB N firewire crad in there without any problem for installation. Once I haved installed 10.0..3 or 10.0.5 I can use the vodoo3 card too. Now when I install 10.2 I can even use the vodoo3 card as display. Recommend you get a copy of 10.2. which will support more hardware and less trouble. It worth. I now using it as my start up volume. Although it is not as fast as G4 but I found it is quite good enough for me to use on all internet use, Office x to use fluently. But not for any games. I photo 1 Imovie 2 and I Tune 3 all work well. I can even though can use a fire wire external CDRW with Toast. Consider Use 10.2 |

I've been trying for some time to install OS-X, but it seems no matter what I do, it always boots up in OS-9 (I have 9.2.2 installed, runs fine). The machine I'm using is a 7300/200 with a PowerLogix G3 400/133/512 processor upgrade, 320 MB RAM. I'm trying to boot from a Mac OS-X Install CD copy in the original Apple-branded CD-ROM drive. I have not been able to add a partition to the 9.1 GB IBM drive that 9.2.2 is installed on, because it was formatted with OWC Annubis Utility V 3.5.3, which does not appear to support partitioning of a drive formatted as HFS + (extended). Do you know if an update to this utility is available, or if there is another solution? If I reach that stage, what type of partition should I choose? Any help you can give me will be sincerely appreciated- Regards, Duane Bluhm 72350.3014@compuserve.com |

So after MULTIPLE attempts with various XPostFacto versions, I get the same result, Blue Screen of Nothingness or, BSN, which is a lovely hue of relaxing blueness. Unfortunately, I was looking for a little more texture-laden backdrop with icons, docks and text lining the top of the screen. The blue is nice, but the other stuff is MUCH more useful. I guess my question at this point is does anyone think it may be hardware related? It gets to the point of installing, then goes blue. It runs through configuring install and everything, it just can't commit to the install. HELP! Thanks, Jim Temple |

I went back to 2.2b4 and got pretty much the same results. There are no additional cards installed in this machine, so i am not sure what the heck is the problem here. Could it be throttle? If so, which direction to take the control? Default is 8, so is one slower or faster? I have a Sonnet G3/400 512 installed. The cache is not enabled. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance. jim temple |

Hmm. You might try booting in verbose mode to see whether there are any interesting error messages. Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest. You could try using an older version of XPostFacto just in case--the latest version should still work with Mac OS X 10.0.4, but earlier versions might be worth a try as well. |
