Hi guys, I own an upgraded PowerMac 9500 with a G3 400Mhz and an ATI XCLAIM 3D video card. If I boot under MacOS9 the screen turns on immediatly. If I reboot to OSX using XPF, the monitor turns off as soon as the machine reboots and turns back on only just before the logon screen. If I try to install OSX the screen goes and stays black, the machine seems to boot for a moment and stops. The screen is still black but if I press enter, it reboots. In the past I have been able to install Jaguar and 10.1, now both version seem to stop during the install. It is very annoying as I don't know what's happening. I tried everything: zapping PRAM, CUDA reset, swapping video card, removing battery during an entire night...no change... Seems to be a VRAM problem as XPostFacto does not keep the video output settings upon reboot and it seems to me that it did before. The problem appeared when I added a Radeon 7000 PCI to the machine but persists after removal.... If I put the card back it does not appear in the OpenFirmware menu as a selectable device... Could it be a problem with recent versions of XPF ? I tried the latest beta versions. Any ideas around ? |

Have a Radeon 7000 used with both 7500/8500 using Sonnet G4/800. When using the 7000 in OS 9 I sometimes will get a black screen all the way through when I first install the card but when I force a restart everything works fine. My advice would be to get the 7000 working in 9 first. Make sure your monitor comes on and everything is working to your satisfaction through several restarts. Then use Xpostfacto to select the appropriate output device in the open firmware menu. The Radeon 7000 is supported in 10.2 but not in 10.1.0. Support was not established until I thing 10.1.5 so trying to install a disc containing only 10.1 will be a no go. Good Luck |
