Can't Open: scsi-int/@0:6 error |

From reading through many threads here I gather this is an easy solution to get around. I'm getting an "Can't Open: scsi-int/@0:6" error when trying to instal OS X. Is there a quick and dirty solution? Or is there a place where the solution is available. I've just started to try and upgrade my 9500 - Crescendo G4/800 upgrade, 512 mb non-interlaced ram to OS X, and have been having MUCH problems. Oh, yes I'm using an IBM scsi hard drive ( I'm piecing together stuff here). I'll give more specs when I get to a stable computer. I just thought I'd ask for a quick solution, if anyone has one. Thanks! Jeffeory |

I finally got OS X on and running. No sound though :-( I kept not getting pass the startup screen where services are being started. What I finally ended up doing was this. I had the OS X 10.1.4 install on the maching ( Which I got from OWC ) I used XpostFacto to upgrade to 10.2. After that, the machine installed, but would lock up at the screen where a blue ball ( maybe it was going to turn into an Apple or something ) with the white background. I started in safe mode. And OS X is now working! YEA! |

If the Startup Assistant ran, that is what you use to register and create an account on the first bootup, but doesn't now... I think there is a way from terminal (Single User mode) to actually create an account. I'd google www.osxfaq.com or www.osxhints.com for that one. |

I got OSX to install on the 4 G Quantum. Now I have to find a solution for the logon screen never coming up. I left it for 2 hours + today, when I came back, there was a blue screen with the spinning rainbow CD icon.... I guess that's progress..... Any ideas? I'm going to check through the board here. I'm sure it's a common problem. Thank for all the input so far! Jeff |

The fast is the default connector, at the top of the logic board facing up. I hear you about the 8500/9500 blues, they are a pain. Be thankful you have the 9500, easier than the 8500 as more space to play. Jim |

I mention the Ultrastar because there were problems with it and Adaptec controllers. Even one of the old 10K Cheetahs and Miles2 didn't get along due to conflict of the firmware on the disk and controller. The 4GB drive is long in the teeth and those are some of the hotter/noisiest drives on the planet. 4GB is just barely enough for a system. Check the jumper pin, but if you have trouble, I'd vote for an active terminator. I had someone on MacGurus go through lengthy hassle and in the end, active terminator on her Maxtor 10K solved the problem. But that was running a 68-pin drive with 50-pin adapter and first trying to get it to work on the native SCSI bus (10MB/s) but months later, got it working and faster, using UltraSCSI using a BlueNote controller, and 20MB/s, which feels really fast thanks to 10K rpm and 8MB cache. |

I took the IBM drive out and am just trying to install on a 4 g quantum. I DO have a Radeon 7000, but that's out right now too. At this point. I'm running with a stock 9500 with a Crescendo G4/800. 512 MB of ram. The termination looks correct. So my big guess right now, is the slow SCSI bus the white one? If so, the I'm on the FAST bus ( that is the default one ) It's such a pain to switch the cables, but I'm going to try it. Thanks! Jeffeory |

I assume that ultrastar is formatted w/apple native drivers and on the main slow scsi bus and not a scsi card....... I have an ultrastar 9 gig that is my 9.2.2 disk on a 2940 card. Actually that drive was the easiest one I have, popped right in, guess I got lucky on that..... Don't forget to "Disable Unit Attention" You need to set the jumper on this drive.... |

Termination. Cables. Active terminator. I'd avoid IBM Ultrastar 9GB if possible. Sonnet G4/800 with other cards can be 'ticklish' at times, like Sonnet trio or Radeon 7000, but don't let it deter you. All the bus-master and top vs. bottom slot knowledge come into play. Keep us posted. I can find an example of a successful install on 9600 or PTP I think, but try this one first: http://forums.macgurus.com/6/ ubb.x?a=tpc&s=40160367&f=72660719&m=63960819 |
