Am attempting to install Jaguar on a G4 upgraded 9500 using XPF 2.2b17. Restarts off CD (with strange pulsating gear shaped object directly below happy Mac) but after a couple of minutes presents the multilinugal message: You need to restart your computer, Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button. Below this message it says: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF Any suggestions? |

Well I got it to install, although I'm not sure if I'm all that knocked out by Jaguar. The trick seems to have been restarting in verbose mode throughout the installation ie. from XPF to install #1 CD and, after the error message when the restart from Disk #1—>Disk #2 occured. Booting back to OS 9 was something of an ordeal too. At one point I was booting from an 8.5 Disk Tools floppy! Finally turned off the external SCSI drives (the internal ones are history) booted from a CD, turned the SCSI drives back when the startup screen and used the Startup Disk CP on my OS 9.1 drive. Now that X.2 is installed Classic will not boot. I'm watching the posts regarding this in hopes that someone solves that one. |

Try verbose mode (hold down command-v as the computer restarts). This should get you a more useful error message. The strange pulsating gear-shaped object is normal for the moment--it should be fixed once Apple pushes out the latest version of BootX to open source. |
