I'm trying to boot into OS 9.1 from OS X 10.1.5. I get the happy mac but then the system just reboots and reloads OS X. I've tried holding the option key down when it reboots and using the startup disk and the same problem occurs. Would zapping the pram solve this problem or is there another solution I can try? |

Matt, no joy. I must be missing something about blessing a system. I tried you instructions several times. Bottom line is that I'm running 10.2 on my test partition but can't run classic from either 10.2 or 10.15 now. Please advise. The good news is that I have a unique partition of 9.2x for classic only apps while running with X. My full up 9.1 is on another drive and is not used for Classic operations, but for stand alone, traditional OS 9 use. --Dwight |

X installer may have de-blessed 9.1 System Folder, which prevents booting into 9. You can re-bless 9.1 System Folder by: 1. Put Mac OS 9.x installer CD (or some other bootable CD) in after the initial kernel panic. Re-boot and hold down the c-key to boot into the 9.x installer CD. 2. Take either System or Finder file out of folder Volume:System:Library:CoreServices: 3. Take either System or Finder file out of the Mac OS 9.1 System Folder, and put it back -- 9.1 System Folder should now be blessed. 4. Put System or Finder file back into folder Volume:System:Library:CoreServices: It seems that the /CoreServices folder is blessed with fake System/Finder files and you have to somehow de-bless that folder before 9.1 System Folder can be blessed. |

Did you install Mac OS X onto the same partition as Mac OS 9? In that case, the problem is probably that the Mac OS X Installer de-blesses your Mac OS 9 System Folder. There are some suggestions in the XPostFacto documentation for dealing with this. It sounds like you'll probably need to boot from a Mac OS 9.x Install CD (with the "c" key down), and re-bless your System Folder. (Zapping the PRAM won't help--in fact, it would make things a little worse, as you wouldn't reboot to Mac OS X then either). Let me know if that isn't it. |
