The Blue Screen on Restart |

Hi, Last night, after running OS 10.1.5 on my PM 8500/Sonnet G3/500 with 416 megs rams for about 4-5 weeks with no major problem, I got a steady blue screen on restart. The start sequence seemed normal, however, nothing seems to be happen after the start dialog box. The screen just kind of flickers and stays steady blue. I am able to reboot and go into OS 9.2.2. The only thing that I played around with is Powerlogix Cache Control and I increased the backside ratio a little. Then after a little while, I got the blue screen when my computer locked up while trying to edit some pictures. Per the Powerlogix instructions, I removed the cache control item from my startup folder in OS x, however, still get the blue screen. Could I have screwed my memory by bumping up the ratio? Any suggestions? Thanks, Jack |

You could try looking in the log to see whether there are any messages that might indicate what the problem is. From Mac OS 9, it will be located at this path: /private/var/log/system.log But I think that the /private directory will be invisible. So you may have to use something like BBEdit, which can cope with that, or use ResEdit to make it visible first. Also, you might try renaming a preference file to see whether that makes a difference. The one I have in mind is at this location: /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist |
