Hello, I've seen post about this here before. I figure I'd share my info with others incase it helps. I have a 9500MP that I applied the 10.1.5 upgrade to my machine that was running 10.1.3 fine. After the upgrade my machine no longer powers off. I have to hit the power switch on the strip to shut the machine off. Whenever I switch the power strip back on the 9500MP automatically starts back up. No matter what i can not get it to power off completely. I decided to mess around a little to see if it was just OSX or that PRAM needed cleared because of the update. I booted into BeOS and selected shut down and it powered off fine. I booted off my Mac OS 8.1 CD and it shut down fine also. So the problem lies only with OSX 10.1.5. |

Yes, I have experienced it under 10.1.5. I didn't recall it happening under any other version. But the nice thing is my 8500 powers off under 10.2. |

I'm not using any G3 or G4 card. I am using my dual 604 180mhz (well OSX only uses only one CPU unfortunately). So the problem is not the upgrade card. |

I've had a similar problem with not being able to shut off my 9500 without pulling the power cord. In every case, it was caused by XPF and the XLR8 patches interfering with each other during a bad install. Sometimes, I could solve it my resetting the CUDA switch, but other times I had to yank the battery for a few hours, put the battery back in, and then hit the CUDA switch. It's probably corruption in some part of the PRAM or NVRAM where XPF writes its info for booting OS X, but I can't determine which. Got rid of the XLR8 card and its flaky software, installed a Sonnet card (but using G3/G4 Cache Profiler instead of the Sonnet extension), and haven't seen this problem since. Tony |
