After my system was upgraded from 10.2 to 10.2.2 using the combo upgrade, it's started to exhibit some strange behavior. It starts up normally and allows me to log in, but only presents me with an empty desktop and the dock on login; there's no menu bar or desktop icons. Looking at /var/log/system.log, I see a few entries that read Nov 16 04:03:49 elrond /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: /System/Library/CoreServices /Finder.app/Contents/MacOS/Finder could not be launched prebound.
and a whole bunch of entries that read Nov 16 16:35:16 elrond crashdump: Crash report written to: /Users/admin/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Finder.crash.log
The Finder crash log contains a pile of more or less identical entries, all reading as follows: Date/Time: 2002-11-16 03:57:09 -0800 OS Version: 10.2.2 (Build 6F21) Host: elrond.wong.local Command: Finder PID: 557 Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x90719848 Thread 0 Crashed: #0 0x90719848 in 0x90719848 #1 0x9073a80c in _ZNK5TNode15NewNodeIteratorEv #2 0x90734944 in _ZN15TMountPointList22FindButDontSynchronizeEs #3 0x90746348 in _ZN15TMountPointList13AddThisVolumeEs #4 0x9074aa54 in _ZN15TMountPointList8PopulateEv #5 0x9074a92c in _ZN15TMountPointList19PopulateMountPointsEv #6 0x9074a5a4 in InitializeCatalog #7 0x00028750 in 0x28750 #8 0x000279cc in 0x279cc #9 0x00026d5c in 0x26d5c #10 0x00026bdc in 0x26bdc PPC Thread State: srr0: 0x90719848 srr1: 0x4200f030 vrsave: 0x00000000 xer: 0x00000000 lr: 0x907357d8 ctr: 0x90005080 mq: 0x00000000 r0: 0x907357c0 r1: 0xbffff860 r2: 0x8800024c r3: 0x003cc1d0 r4: 0x003cc1f0 r5: 0x00000001 r6: 0xbffff908 r7: 0x00000000 r8: 0x0000ffff r9: 0xa0004f90 r10: 0x003cc1d0 r11: 0x00000020 r12: 0x00000000 r13: 0x00000000 r14: 0x00000000 r15: 0x00000000 r16: 0x00000000 r17: 0x00000000 r18: 0x00000000 r19: 0x00000000 r20: 0x00000000 r21: 0x00000000 r22: 0x00000000 r23: 0x00000000 r24: 0x00000000 r25: 0x00000000 r26: 0xbffff908 r27: 0x00000001 r28: 0xbffff900 r29: 0x003cc1f0 r30: 0x003cc1d0 r31: 0x90746318
Has anyone else run into this kind of behavior before? Any ideas as to what caused the problem and what I might be able to do to fix it? Thanks...
