Occasionally we are asked why the Mount Pro will not work in 2006, 2007, or 2008 Mac Pro models. At a glance, the native drive sleds in those models might look the same as those found in the 2009, 2010, and 2012 models. However they are not the same.
The native sleds in the 2009-2012 Mac Pro models are slightly longer (by about 0.5 in.) than the sleds used in the earlier models, in order to accommodate a slightly greater distance to the backplane and SATA connectors. The Mount Pro is therefore also slightly longer than the native sleds for the 2006-2008 Mac Pros and so cannot be used in those models. For this reason we recommend using an Adaptadrive for customers who wish to mount a 2.5" SATA drive into their 2006-2008 Mac Pro.
