Hard Drives: Identifying Unusual Noises

While all hard drives will exhibit some mechanical noises when reading or writing data (and some are definitely louder than others), sometimes you may hear some unusual noises which you cannot positively identify (either the noise or its cause). In cases like this we recommend taking a look at the drive simulator page from DriveSavers and listening to the different types of sounds. If the sound you hear from the drive is very similar to one of the sounds on the simulator page, and the drive is still under warranty with OWC, please contact our Technical Support team for advice and assistance.
