Rating: 4/5 Thank you FirmTek, finally a decent solution to bootable external drives on a MBP July 31, 2013 I recently bought this card for my 2011 MBP in order to have the ability to run multiple bootable eternal drives for audio and video projects. You really should buy the dual drive bay that Firm Tek offers to get the hotswapability that they claim because that is not the case with most drives that may work with this card. If you check out the Firm Tek web site they do tell you that this card does not work with all esata drives, and I did not realize that when I had bought this. I use this card with OWC's Mercury Elite 2.5" 6g esata drives. Although they do work, they do not quite work flawlessly, at least not for me. That could be due to the fact that I did buy one of the two Mercury Elite drives from an "as is" condition "garage sale" listing that OWC had sent me. After quite a bit of frustration the enclosure failed and OWC did send back a replacement after I had set up an exchange. Now all is well, but my advice to anyone wanting to do this: Install your drive that will live in the Mercury Elite into the MBP and install from your Mac OS X install DVD instead of doing your install directly from the card to the external esata drive, you will save yourself the awful headache of failed attempts of getting it to work properly. At least this is what I can say works 100% for sure, now the other drive that I had installed OSX from the card work properly, so who knows? Just my $.02 FWIW.

Also, a quick note, be sure to do plenty of disk utility checks and use the "verify disk" command often after running multiple OSX from your card. Also, the PR ram will need to be reset from time to time as well.

I would recommend this item to a friend!
