Rating: 5/5 Easy Upgrade August 29, 2018 Really, this looks daunting but is not very difficult. You need to have some comfort with repairs in general, but nothing complicated. The kit contains everything you need, and the OWC video is excellent - one of the best how-to videos out there. There are others on YouTube but they are not as professional. I had the video next to me on my iPad and referred to it throughout the process. The kits has everything needed, but as pointed out by another reviewer the handles to the torx screwdrivers in the kit are thin, making it difficult to get power as you use it. I had my own set with thicker handles that I used instead. Other than that the kits is great, and the bundled price was still less expensive than if I purchased the items separately at OWC to another local retailer.

Rating: 5/5 smooth August 13, 2018 The whole operation from delivery to the installation was easy to do. The videos were very helpful in installation and had enough detail for me to do it on my own with no problem. Great price as well. The kids took that computer and now are using it. Cheers.

Rating: 5/5 Easy peasy! June 3, 2018 My 2011 iMac hard drive died. No loss of data, but I really wanted to use it some more. I ordered the 2 TB HD Upgrade/Replacement Kit (around $100 with the tool kit), then I watched the video on YouTube, and had it installed within 30 minutes. I installed High Sierra and I'm off and running. Saved me a trip to the Apple Store, and a bunch of money. The easiest thing I've done in a long time!

Rating: 5/5 Beat expectations, even I could do it! April 12, 2018 My mid 2011 27" iMac started running very slow. I bought a "cleaning program" and this didn't help. Using Disk Utility, it became clear that I had a hardware problem. I found MacSales.Com on the internet and before ordering read the site and decided to give this a go. I've never worked inside a computer before. I bought a Seagate FireCuda hybrid drive 2 TB to replace the original 1 TB drive and followed the instructions on the excellent video on the site. The first time I powered it up after replacing the drive, the fan was running at full speed. I did Live Chat with Tech Support on the site and with some sympathy, the technician told me that in his experience the #1 cause of this was a failure to make sure all the connections are tight. Not wanting to open everything up again, I thought about buying a fan control program, but Reason took hold and I reopened the machine (easier the second time) and checked and tightened all the connections. No more fan noise. I formatted the new drive and had my Time Machine reload the data.

My goodness, I can't believe how wonderfully my old iMac is working now. It's 4 or 5 times faster booting and the response of the applications is now instant. I am a very happy man.

Thank you.

Rating: 4/5 Fairly easy to do, but be careful with the lcd cable August 16, 2017 Overall, I was very hesitant to do this as I have never taken apart an iMac before. But the instructions were very clear, and overall the process was pretty easy to do. ** However, if you are planning on doing this, make sure you are very careful when removing and/or re-installing the lcd cable for the iMac. It is extremely fragile, which is not something they say in the instructional video. I damaged the cable, and had to purchase a new one on eBay. After carefully removing the old one, and installing the new one (which was pretty cheap, like $20) my iMac is successfully upgraded with a hard drive and works much faster than previously. Overall, I would recommend this upgrade.

Rating: 5/5 Pretty easy March 4, 2017 After an internal hard drive failure on the 2011 iMac that has the ridiculous special hard drive and connector, I tried booting off an external drive. That was too slow so I looked for internal options. This kit was exactly what I needed. I watched the video instructions on my iPad while taking it apart and putting it back together and with the tools included in the kit, it only took about 30 minutes for the entire process. I'm pretty handy and have taken apart computers before so take that into account but I think this could be done by most people without much difficulty.

My one recommendation would be to have a second person around for the part where you take off the screen and put it back because the weight and angle are a little awkward. Not a deal-breaker challenge, but I definitely felt better having someone else support the screen while I disconnected and reconnected the cables behind it. I also recommend having a can of compressed air nearby and using it to blow out the dust from inside the computer. There will be a lot.

The machine is running better and for a 6 year old computer, I can't complain.

Rating: 5/5 All in one kit which worked perfectly February 21, 2017 This kit worked perfectly for my iMac. Everything was included. And, along with the 'how to' video on the OWC site, the install went very smoothly. The video estimated that it would take about 35 minutes and it took me about 35 minutes.

This is yet another great product by OWC. You can always count on them to help those of us with Macs.

Rating: 5/5 Sounds Difficult but it's EASY February 6, 2017 I was extremely cautious about this type of upgrade because of all the things that could go wrong. Saw the video from OWC, took my time and everything went GREAT. Now, I have so much HD space that I think that I would never run out of room. Tools worked like a champ. Thanks OWC for making my life easier to perform these upgrades.

Rating: 5/5 great value, easy to install January 30, 2017 After about four years, the original hard drive in my iMac died. Using the kit from MacSales.com, I was able to quickly replace it with a higher capacity and better performing drive for less than half of what retail shops in my area would charge.

I simply watched the video a few times, then performed the installation using the provided tools and replacement drive. It took less than one hour from the time I received the kit to powering-up the iMac and beginning the standard MacOS reinstallation process.

Highly recommended!

Rating: 5/5 Replacing a hard drive on an iMac??Not me! But I did! January 29, 2017 As the HD on our 2011 iMac failed, I was glad that I had a couple of OWC external HDs as bootable backups. This left me with the choice of having a new HD installed or try to do it myself. Looking up for a replacement solution, I came across the SSD kit. After evaluating the 960 GB SSD vs the rotating 2 TB HD solution, I chose the 2 TB hybrid drive kit. I was a bit scared to take our iMac apart, but after watching the video twice, I replaced the HD not in the 35 minutes that the video said, but in 45 minutes-I had to vacuum out six years worth of dust! This is a great kit, it had all of the tools that I needed, it helped that I had a OWC tool kit I purchased over five years ago, as I needed the tweezers from it.Thank you OWC, you saved us lots of $$$ one more time.
