OS X 10.1
By Paul Roesner Every Mac fan knows that Mac OS X availability was one of the most anticipated moments ever. Weve been hearing little tidbits over the years about the cool features and technology improvements that OS X would bring to the Mac when it finally ships. Well, since January of this year, many dreams came true. Also, OS X has been pre-installed on every new Macintosh sold since March. A little earlier than everyone expected it to be. From the original 10.0.0, there have been a few incremental enhancements building up to the current 10.0.4 version. Today, Apple was proud to announce that a new major upgrade was going to be available to the eagerly awaiting public in Sept. Its labeled 10.1. 10.1 holds the most improvements in one OS X upgrade, ever. Improvements include: Faster overall system performance, Aqua interface enhancements, exceptional network compatibility, DVD playback and authoring, burning CDs from the Finder, and improved graphics and printing. Jobs demonstrated the improvements that are in OS X 10.1 in his keynote. Even through the relatively poor QT Streaming I was experiencing, I could instantly see the speed improvements 10.1 are going to offer. Window resizing and dragging were instantly improved! He demonstrated that Internet Explorer opens much quicker than in older OS X versions. You know how the application icon bounces when it loads up? In 10.1, the Explorer icon bounces once In the older versions, it bounces 5 times! Jobs explained. In other words, apps open up like they were already running in the background! Among other advancements, the dock can now be mounted on the left or right side of the monitor, instead of just the bottom. Effortless CD burning, DVD playback, and some Aqua enhancements were also shown by Jobs. Only 4 months from pre-installing OS X on all shipping PowerMacs
Apple is going full-steam-ahead, with the notation of building the best Operating System in the world. And with 10.1, I think they are clearly getting the message across. |
