The original iMac (Bondi), was first introduced back in May 98 and has changed a little in looks and configurations since then. It essentially turned the computer world upside down with it's, at that point in time, weird looks. I guess those weird looks caught on because millions were sold, about 6 million to be exact. It was so popular, even other computer manufacturer tried to mimic the iMacs design to steal some revenue, which well keep nameless.
Important credentials
To take an already very successful design and throw it in the trash to start a new one takes guts. Obviously Apple put a lot of time and careful consideration into the reconstruction of the new iMac. It was imperative that they did so.
During the keynote, just before the official showing, Jobs noted that Apple was listening to the public for their opinions on the changes theyd like done to the new iMac. Here are the top number of changes he listed:
1. 15 flat-panel LCD display
2. G4 PowerPC Processor
3. SuperDrive option
4. Powerful video chipset (nVidia)
After the introduction of the new iMac, it was apparent that apple took into account the majority of the public’s requests and placed them into a nice little, forward-thinking package. (Or a lamp, as some people have been calling it.)
Main features
General design: The base, where the important components are stored, stands at a mere 10.6 inches wide. In the base, a clever metal pivoting stem extrudes out the center connected to a extremely fluid 15 flat-panel display. Additionally, the rear panel boasts enough ports to make any peripheral fanatic happy.
