Other World Computing Introduces Multi-Mount For Adding Smaller Footprint Drives Into Larger Drive Bays In Mac & Pc Tower Computers

Seven new kits starting at $17.99 enable installation of 2.5" drives into 3.5" bays, 3.5" drives into 5.25" bays, multiple drives into a single bay, and complete bracket and cable kits for 2006-2009 Mac Pros

July 22, 2010, Woodstock, IL -- Other World Computing (OWC®), a leading zero emissions Mac® and PC technology company, today announced the OWC Multi-Mount™ custom engineered powder-coated aircraft grade aluminum brackets for securely installing smaller footprint (2.5" & 3.5") hard drives and Solid State Drives (SSD) into larger sized (3.5" & 5.25") drive bays in Mac Pro, Power Mac, and PC tower computers. Available in seven different adapter bracket kits to provide drive size use versatility, the OWC Multi-Mount gives Mac and PC tower users the freedom to expand their computer’s drive capacity and configuration to meet individual data storage and backup needs.

Seven Kits Offer Variety Of Storage Configurations
The OWC Multi-Mount is available in seven different kits that come complete with all required installation hardware and a color installation manual for easy assembly. Two Mac Pro specific kits include power and drive connection cables. With an OWC Multi-Mount kit, Mac and PC tower owners can add:
  • one 2.5" hard drive or SSD into a 3.5" drive bay or
  • up to two 2.5" hard drives or SSDs into a 5.25" drive bay or
  • up to two 3.5" hard drives into a 5.25" drive bayor
  • a combination of one 2.5" hard drive or SSD and one 3.5" hard drive into a 5.25" drive bay

Utilizes Empty Or Unused Drive Bay Space To Increase Storage Capacity
The OWC Multi-Mount provides optimal use of the unused optical bays found in Mac Pro and PC tower computers, as well offering the ability to replace an infrequently used optical drive with up to two additional hard drives and/or SSDs for increased storage capacity and configuration. Consisting of heat dissipating aircraft grade aluminum brackets, the OWC Multi-Mount’s “open air” design provides maximum air flow to keep various combinations of 2.5" and 3.5" attached drives running cool.

Reduces Noise And Protects Drives
By employing unique hard rubber dampeners to cushion the contact between drives and the computer case, the OWC Multi-Mount reduces vibration and noise transferred through the case by mechanical hard drives.
Additionally, this “floating rubber suspension” protects drives from impact shocks delivered to the case as well as potentially extending hard drive use life by reducing vibrations that can cause hard drive failure.

“The beauty of Multi-Mount, in addition to its blue powder coated finish, is the drive configuration flexibility it offers to Mac Pro and PC tower users,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing. “From adding more capacity, faster boot and app load performance, and even redundancy via a RAID setup, Multi-Mount is a complete hardware solution for custom tailoring internal storage to meet individual needs.”

High Performance Hard Drives & SSDs Available
In addition to the Multi-Mount drive adapter bracket solutions, OWC carries a full line of 2.5" notebook drives up to 1TB with 500GB hard drives from $69.99 and Solid State Drives (SSD) from $129.99. OWC’s 3.5"drive line goes up to 2TB with 500GB hard drives from $49.99. For the fastest and most reliable drive available on the market, OWC also offers its own award-winning Mercury Extreme Pro SSD line in capacities from 50GB to 480GB starting at $194.99. Enclosures For Re-Tasking Optical Drives
OWC also has a solution for users to re-task an optical drive when using Multi-Mount to replace a factory installed SATA optical drive with hard drives and/or SSDs. The $34.99 OWC Value Line USB 2.0 enclosure kit is value priced for retaining CD and DVD burning capabilities. For higher performance, the $94.99 OWC Mercury Pro enclosure kit with FireWire 800/400, USB 2.0, and eSATA interfaces offers Plug and Play compatibility with any computer.
