Mac: Airport Extreme and Time Machine

If you have one of the original Airport Extreme base stations with connectivity for an external drive, we do NOT recommend you set up a drive in this way for use with Time Machine backups. This was something Apple originally supported but no longer supports, likely due to problems that many users encountered with this setup. If you would like to use an Apple wireless device for Time Machine backups, the best option is the Time Capsule.
