OS X, macOS: Apple Partition Map vs. GUID Partition Table

There are two types of partition map schemes recommended for Macs; once applied they will determine some of the formatted drive's capabilities.

Apple Partition Map (APM)

    1.  Seen and usable on all PowerPC and Intel based Mac machines.

    2.  Bootable only on PowerPC machines.

GUID Partition Table

     1.  Seen and usable only on Intel based Macs.

     2.  Bootable on Intel based Macs.
