FireWire Enclosures: Sleep Issues with 10.9 and later

External enclosures from OWC and NewerTech that use FireWire chipsets made by Oxford and JMicron may exhibit a behavior whereby the drives do not spin down when the computer sleeps. This behavior exists on Macs running OS X 10.9 or later and does not occur with any other connection types, such as USB.
