OWC Diagnostics: Multi-purpose Windows Utility

Created on: September 1, 2020
Last updated: September 2, 2020

As of August 2020, we have expanded our OWC Diagnostics utility. Previously this was available only through our Support Team but going forward will be a publicly available download, as we continue to expand its capabilities.

This utility makes it easy to change obscure Windows settings that can cause problems with some OWC products. For example, instead of digging through the Windows Device Manager, OWC Diagnostics can allow you to resolve an issue with a simple walk-through, in most cases with a couple clicks. Another benefit is that it can be downloaded and run as a stand-alone entity; it will not install files into your Windows system that later have to be removed.

The initial public version is available here as a free download, and will later be available on applicable product pages as well. Please see the listing below for the currently available features and fixes. Example screenshots from a typical walk-through are shown below.

Features & Fixes

First Public Release (v3.0)

  • Detects and fixes a USB power-management setting, which can cause the USB ports on the OWC Thunderbolt 3 mini Dock to stop functioning.
  • Resolves issue where a Time Machine backup disk has lost its MacDrive registration, which will cause MacDrive's Time Machine Explorer extension to not work.

  • Resolves issue where a user has reformatted a Mac partition as NTFS, resulting in a Windows volume that is only accessible while MacDrive is installed. (This issue is rare and primarily occurs with older versions of MacDrive.)
