When dealing with our everyday devices, cables can be a bit of an afterthought. This can lead to problems down the road when buying a replacement or spare cable, however.
OWC Founder and CEO Larry O’Connor recently joined Windows Secrets to talk about making the best connections for your devices. Below are some highlights from the article:
OWC Larry on cable reliability: “What makes a better cable is a good design with the right copper, the right conductor, the right thickness, a firm tension release, and factoring in length for proper throughput. Then there is the connectivity at both ends, where the conductors [the plugs] attach to the cables. All the little details make a difference. Most cables fail [when they] have a poor quality conductor — which usually means not the best copper.”
… on added protection: “Cables with braided jackets effectively give added protection over standard, nonbraided cables. They can better handle wear and tear and cost little more than the nonbraided ones. If you are traveling, have kids, or are plugging them in and out often, they can take a lot more abuse.”
