It should come as no surprise that we here at Rocket Yard love anything and everything to do with space – especially when it comes to rockets!
Today marked the 50th anniversary of the launch that landed mankind on the moon. On July 16, 1969, at 8:32 a.m., a Saturn V rocket lifted off from Cape Kennedy carrying the Apollo 11 crew to its lunar destination. And in celebration, at 8:32am this morning, OWC launched their own model rockets from their headquarters in Woodstock, Illinois.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center was already poised to break the Guinness Book of World Records by simultaneously launching 5,000 model rockets when they invited the public to join the celebration by launching their own—regardless of where they were in the world. It was a Global Rocket Launch event and OWC considered it an honor to participate.
“Much of the technology we take for granted today was born and highly accelerated during our race to space, the moon, and beyond,” says Founder and CEO Larry O’Connor. “The courage, imagination, and pure passion that made Apollo 11 possible—and all it’s led us to today—that’s something to live up to and strive for.”
