I have been wanting a MacBook Air (MBA) for years, I wanted the portability and the power these machines offer. It became clear that Apple was not going to offer a Retina display on the MBA, so I changed my expectations.
This is a 3+ year old MacBook Air that OWC listed in "Fair" condition. Most of the other used MacBook Airs had only 4GB, I chose this model for the 8GB of RAM (RAM can't be updated on a MacBook Air).
Wow, what a surprise. If this is what "Fair" looks like, I don't need "Good". This machine is in extremely good condition for a 3 year old machine.
Cons: - Key shine (understandable for any used Apple product with dark chiclet-style keys) - There are scratches on the bottom of the case. - The battery life is just over 50% of new.
Pros: - This machine has a replaceable battery (I'll be doing that sometime soon) - All other fit and finish are like new. No dents, no significant blemishes.
I had only briefly considered buying a used computer in the past, but found prices to be either too high or the condition descriptions to be too nebulous or hard to predict. When I saw the photos OWC posted as part of the description, I thought perhaps they were wrong or not indicative. So I took the leap.
I am thrilled with quality of this laptop. True, it is not the newest or fastest MacBook Air, nor is it close to the speed of machines I considered, but it is an i5 with 8GB of RAM and a solid state disk. This machine runs El Capitan OS 10.11 easily. All that I need this computer for lives in the Mac/Apple universe, so this machine will be great. Great for a trip to the coffee shop or around the World. This will be my new companion!
I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from Apple 13" MacBook Air (2012) 1.8GHz Dual Core i5 - Used, Good condition.
