This card is good to add HDMI/DisplayPort high res monitors to older Mac Pros (MacPro3,1 4,1 5,1). It will drive up to two displays at 2560x1440 resolution. (one must be a dual-channel DVI). For HDMI need DP -> HDMI adapter. This card will work on MacOS High Sierra (10.13.6). One potential issue for new DP monitors, this card defaults to DP mode 1.1. If the monitor will only do DP-mode 1.2 or higher then you will not see anything on the display until software sets the card DP-mode. On MP4,1 5,1 the BIOS will do that, on MP3,1 that will only happen after the machine boots up a new enough version of MacOS (EG 10.9 or better). bottom line: on MacPro3,1 with new DP monitor running in DP-mode 1.2 you will not see anything until the system boots up. Workaround: change monitor settings to DP-mode 1.1 (if you can) or keep a DVI monitor around for troubleshooting any boot problems or doing OS upgrades. One word of warning, many DVI->HDMI adapters are single-channel only. So if you want to run two HDMI monitors with this card be aware that one of them cannot be more than 1080p resolution (unless you can find a dual-channel DVI->HDMI adapter). I have two of these cards, one in a MP3,1 running 10.9.5 and one in a MP4,1 running 10.13.6

If you are looking to get better res displays….do exactly as you did and up the power of the video card. One nice thing about those Mac Pro's is that you can indeed upgrade components and get higher res video imaging than you would otherwise. Always go through and check the specs though to make sure its compatible and to know of any compatibility issues that may incur. We want you to know we appreciate your purchase and hope you enjoy the upgrade. Thanks for sharing!
