Rating: 4/5 Good router, but … December 2, 2018 First, my knowledge of networking is probably less than a kilobit. Keep that in mind as you read this review.

Once properly installed, the router works very well. So far it's a notable improvement over our previous router, as well as the router-modem supplied by our ISP. This router comes with a quick start guide, and for most simple installations it's probably adequate, though it seems a little out of date for the router's software. The downloadable manual is much more helpful, but still has faults for the network challenged. This is a common failing of all network hardware that I have ever encountered: If you don't speak the language, you get confused. Still, the installation and setup are better than the other four I've dealt with. Once you get past the initial web setup, it's very easy to configure—or misconfigure. Be patient—initial connection may take a few minutes, and my first attempt hung. I'll blame my ISP for that. If you are more network savvy than I, you may find setup a breeze—and you can always ask OWC for their outstanding help.

The unit is very lightweight, and the cables attached to it may lift the front end. If you have it in an elevated position, I suggest fastening it to the surface or putting it where it can't fall off. Alternatively, anchor the cables plugged in to it. I used zip-ties for both.

My biggest complaint is the indicator light: I bought a router, not a desk lamp! The light is huge (~5 inches long) and very bright, almost bright enough to read by. Why do hardware manufacturers think every indicator has to be almost blinding?

Rating: 5/5 Upgdrade Wi-Fi at affordable price October 1, 2018 When my 10 year old D-link router died, I had to replace it. This was on sale at OWC and clearly an upgrade. As an amateur, non-techie home user, I was dreading trying to get it going; but the install software worked perfectly and made it easier than I expected. One thing, however: installation required a hard-wire connection to a computer with appropriate OS (my 2014 Macbook Pro, lacks such a port! ugh. [WIreless is apparently an option, but, thankfully, I didn't have to go there.]) Fortunately, I was able to use my old Macbook, w/OS 10.6, and a really old version of Firefox, followed the prompts and entered the provided passwords, and connection was complete. Note that you do have to choose one or the other of the dual bands for each of your device(s). I ended up with my computer on the default and my phone on the second. Connection speeds seem fast. I've been very pleased. The more knowledgeable reviews on OWC helped to convince me to make the purchase. So far (a few weeks), all is well.

Rating: 4/5 Easy setup December 28, 2017 I ordered this as a Christmas present for my mother. Her old router was quite slow and outdated. The price on this router couldn't be beat. Installation and configuration of this unit was easy, and took less than 10 minutes. I may even consider buying one for myself.

Rating: 5/5 Super deal July 26, 2017 Although this router is not the latest and greatest, at the offered price this was a deal. Much better than the netgear it replaced. I can definitely see the speed difference on my network.
