We're sorry, but this item is no longer for sale. However, there may be more Wireless Networking » Network Adapters » Add via USB Port » 802.11b/g/n items available.
We recommend Edimax EW-7811UnV2 150Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n Nano-size USB Adapter (Mfr P/N: EW-7811UnV2) from Edimax for $12.99 as a suitable alternative.
I needed an alternative to my original Airport card, which couldn't handle WPA2, and this adapter did the trick.
I had a couple software false starts — the adapter comes with a mini-CD that only works with Mac OS 10.5 and up, though it said on the web the device would work with 10.4 (which is the upper limit for my old Mac). So I downloaded the 10.4 driver from the Edimax web site using a different computer, moved it to the G4 via a USB stick, and executed it from there. Even then, I wasn't entirely sure how to turn the device on, but somehow I got to a window that showed my network and asked for a WPA2 password -- and once I entered it, I was connected! I can’t vouch for its range; it’s amazing to me that it works at all without an antenna. But my G4 is in a first floor bedroom and the router is in the basement, so at least it can get through the floor and a wall. A bigger limitation is the browsers that will work with 10.4, which make many web pages inaccessible. But the adapter is working fine, as far as I can tell.
I would recommend this item to a friend!Thank you.
I would recommend this item to a friend! If anybody else needs wireless access this is the way to go for under $12.00
I would recommend this item to a friend! Before I got it I looked at the Edimax website to see if I could find a driver and I downloaded that as well as the how to pdf. Later when I got the package in the email there was a mini cdr that I could load and open with my ibook but it didn't have the right driver with it. The driver was for 10.6.
The install was pretty easy but to get online was a little confusing for the first time. Look for available network and okay that then add your password 2 times and both fields are hidden when you add the password. Once I got it going it worked like a charm. The only way you can see if your connected is to look at Utility it installs or look at the adapter. There's no indication in the menu bar. It is also hard to get out of the clamshell's usb port...
I have also used it on my macbook 2010 (10.9) just to see what it would do. After the install there's a menu app that remains there and tells you ether have adapter connected or when it is connected it shows you as well connects you to your network and It also shows signal strength there was well.
I would recommend this item to a friend!I switch my Internal NIC from one spare apple computer I have and it worked like charm. So basically this Dongle can be very useful to Windows Laptops or Desktops but for Apple I would rate only 3 out of 5.
