Mac / PC / Composite AV / S-VHS
Digitize video from analog
Digitize video from a VCR, camcorder and other analogue video sources for playback on your Mac, PC and iPad
Transfer video to your Mac or PC from a VCR, DVR, camcorder, or any other analogue video device as a high quality H.264 file. Elgato Video Capture's easy-to-use software assists you through every step, from connecting an analogue video device to capturing video and choosing how you will watch and share it. There is no easier way to digitise home video to playback on your computer, to sync with an iPad or iPhone, to edit in iMovie or Windows Live Movie Maker, or to upload to YouTube. Elgato Video Capture comes with Elgato Video Capture software for Mac and Windows.
Put Family Memories on your computer
The era of VHS tapes is winding down, and after three decades there is a lot of video content to transfer for modern playback devices. What's more, any video stored on magnetic tape (such as VHS, Video8 and Hi8) has a limited life span and deteriorates over time. Elgato Video Capture provides an easy way to bring those precious memories into iTunes or your Windows Media Player library.
Every step is made simple
Elgato Video Capture is very easy to use. The software assistant guides you through every step, from connecting an analogue video device to capturing video and choosing how you will watch and share it. The software offers a simple tool to trim the beginning and end of the captured video. With just one click, you can add your video to iTunes or to your Windows Media Player library; you can play back the video on your computer or sync it with your iPad or iPhone; you can upload your video directly to YouTube; and you can edit it right away in iMovie or Windows Live Movie Maker.
Video to your computer from a DVR, DVD Player, or Set-Top Box
Perhaps you've been given a DVD from a family event or reunion and you want to share it by posting it on your website or on YouTube. Or you've saved some great movies and TV shows on your DVR and want to play them back on your iPad. Elgato Video Capture can connect and capture video to your Mac or PC from any device that has composite "RCA" or S-Video outputs. It also comes with a SCART adapter.

Rating: 5/5 GREAT gadget; seems to copy ANYthing February 4, 2016 Finally finished copying/moving a significant part of a terabyte of videos, from elderly VHS and BetaMax tapes, into MP4 files. This included both prerecorded, commercially-sold VHS and BetaMax tapes - some of them surely "copy-protected" (THEY tho't!) as well as home recordings - some of which were most of maybe 8-9 hours long (slowest speed on 180-minute tapes - i.e. 540-minute-=max recordings!). Also copied various programs - both live and internally recorded on the service-provider's DVR - from various cable shows. ALL of it was EASY; NO problems at all. Well, except for the VERY old VHS and BetaMax players ... which left MUCH to be desired. (But that was NOT the Elgato's problem; it did it's best! :-)

Rating: 5/5 Excellent Device January 28, 2016 The Elgato Video Capture device connected to my MacBook Pro (MacOS 10.9.5) and captured my Verizon DVR content. I was able to transfer the files into iMovie HD and process the content, and write the content to DVD using iDVD 7. This simple to use device was the perfect solution to download my DVR content.

Rating: 4/5 Great, But not for El Capitan November 2, 2015 Purchased Elgato Video Capture about a month ago, and originally started using it with the Mavericks OS. Product worked very well, easy and intuitive to use. Then I upgraded my OS to El Capitan, and everything went haywire. Audio was either over-recorded to distortion levels, or missing entirely. The picture would often freeze during recording etc. In communicating with Elgato technical support, and after they remotely analyzed my Video Capture device plugged into my Macbook Pro, they told me that El Capitan changes the USB configuration and interferes with their device. They suggested going back to Yosemite OS or Mavericks. I switched back to Mavericks, and now the Video Capture device works perfectly again. Unfortunately, Elgato does not warn you via their website that this product won't work with El Capitan, and I think they really should. I would highly recommend the Elgato Video Capture, but not for El Capitan.

Response from MacSales.com, Technical Support December 4, 2015 OS X 10.11 has had its share of USB issues, with many devices, not just those from Elgato. However, Elgato now has a beta that takes care of the audio issues. The beta is prominently posted in their Knowledgebase. Here is the article that lists the beta: https://help.elgato.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2145048-elgato-software-and-os-x-10-11-el-capitan-support

Rating: 5/5 Simplicity at its finest! February 22, 2013 I purchased this to convert my old VHS tapes into a digital format so I can finally throw away my antiquated VHS Player. I had the software installed and the hardware setup within minutes. My first VHS was importing within 5minutes of opening the box and that is counting the 1.5 minutes it took to rewind the VHS. Apparently the last time I watched the VHS, I forgot the old "Be Kind Rewind" saying.
