Rating: 5/5 Easy, straightforward March 31, 2020 I was hesitant before buying a battery for my 2015 MacBook Pro. I have no IT experience and know there are risks involved when replacing computer parts. MacSales gave simplistic and easy directions with their YouTube video. The package came with all the safety equipment and tools needed. I was able to change my battery in 30mins with no issues. The price is also very fair.

Rating: 5/5 Great Instructions - one (or two) cautions on install March 28, 2020 I waited a while after buying the product to do the install. I watched the video twice before starting. When I did the install, I carefully kept all the screws and parts together - tip place some double sided tape on 3x5 cards and label the assembly (e.g. SD Card). I also drew a small diagram on the card showing the location of the screws on the card/part and then put the tape over them and put the screw on the diagram! This all worked great and all the parts came off as advertised. CAUTION: When I went to loosen the battery all went well until I got to the center two cells. The video does not warn you that right under the two cells is a square plate that covers the back of the track pad. The adhesive remover will also get under it and loosen that plate! So when I took the batters out - what actually came out was the protective plate. I quickly got it off the battery, was able to reinstall it and then completed the reassembly. So be very very careful around that plate and the center two cells. I accidentally trapped two different small ribbon connectors under the Mother board (2 more disassemblies!) before I got it all right. Fired it up and it worked! I did have to adjust the tension screw on the trackpad - I had incorrectly thought it was part of the assembly holding the plate in place - it is not - if the plate comes off LEAVE THE SCREW ALONE!!! But alls well that ends well - I have a healthy battery that hold charge for over 5 hours of use now - great product - great value - assembly challenging but not REAL hard! Final tip - if you have some reading glasses or watch repair jeweler glasses - that will really help when you have to reconnect the antenna connections to the wireless card - they are really really small! I would HIGHLY recommend this product and self install if you are at all savvy about using tools!

Rating: 5/5 This battery new delivered 8 to 9 hours charge March 15, 2020 Mid 2014 Macbook Pro. After installing the battery and performing the recommended battery calibration, the laptop ran for over 8 hours on the first charge. That mimics the original battery performance, looking good so far. Installation of the battery took about an hour. I followed the detailed instructions on this website and had no problems since they are well written. The new battery has a one year warranty. I am very pleased with the NewerTech battery.

Rating: 5/5 Great battery. My Macbook works like new! February 16, 2020 I have an old Macbook Pro from 2015. I've used it almost everyday the past 5 years for work, life, and leisure. My battery had become weak and unreliable after years of heavy use, so I decided to replace it.

After watching the instructional video and about 2 hours of work, I had my laptop reassembled with the new battery (I cleaned the fans and replaced my thermal paste too). Now my Macbook Pro runs like new! Not only is the battery life longer, but the CPU runs faster too thanks to the steady voltage from this battery.

I went from 2 hour battery life to 10 hours thanks to this repair kit!

Rating: 5/5 Easier than it seems December 16, 2019 Apple refused to cover my swollen battery in my mid-2015 MBP and wanted to charge me $200 which was bad enough, but said it would also take 3 weeks to get it done! I turned to this replacement kit at half the cost and a fraction of the turn around time. After watching the how-to video I thought I made a mistake, but most of the reviews said it wasn't as bad as they anticipated. In addition, I looked up other videos online and the majority suggested not taking out every component like the logic board and speakers. I can understand why MacSales wants to err on the side of caution, but I didn't want to risk damaging something else like my wireless card while taking it out. I also found others suggesting a different method for getting the batteries out which included some kind of thread rather than scraping it out with the included credit cards. I used a pretty thick nylon thread sawing back and forth across the adhesive and it cut right through like butter! As a result of these modifications to the process I was able to turn this repair around in less than an hour and the replacement battery worked perfectly right away. Stats even showed that the replacement battery was manufactured just two months prior to my order! Fresh off the line and adding many years to my laptop. No thanks to Apple!

Rating: 5/5 Laptop feels like new! December 8, 2019 I remember being very excited when I first purchased my 2012 MacBook Pro. Fast forward to today, still very happy with the machine, but an issues had been the battery; had to keep near an outlet most of the time, plugging in after about 45 minutes to an hour of use, at most.

Now with this replacement, I’ve ran it for 5+ hours, outlet free! I’m looking forward to using it more on the go (bus rides, train rides) and not rushing to squeeze in some urgent tasks before the battery dies.

I’ll be holding on to this wonderful machine just a little bit longer! courtesy of this wonderful product.

Rating: 5/5 Exactly As Listed November 5, 2019 The kit was exactly as described. There is no functional difference between the original battery and the replacement if you install it correctly.

The instructional video was clear and easy to follow.

The adhesive remover has enough warnings you'll think you're handling a thermonuclear bomb... it's really not that bad. You'll be fine.

A few caveats you should keep in mind: 1. This repair does *not* take 20 min. Be patient so you don't destroy your computer in the process. 2. You're going to have to remove more than a dozen tiny screws of varying lengths. Make sure you have a strategy to not lose them and also remember which ones go where. There are cheap silicone soldering mats you can buy that are great for keeping track of screw position.

Rating: 5/5 Experts Only October 19, 2019 Product arrived very well packaged with every part, tool and convenience item needed for a correct install.

I recommend watching the full install video before purchase. That will allow you to plan the full time line and flow of this project.

I categorize this as an Expert Only install because of the multiple complex connectors that must be removed and reinstalled.

The installation video does not show enough disconnect/connect detail for an intermediate installer to be successful.

Possible work around, find independent video on the net showing connection techniques.

In summary, I am once again pleased with this OWC product.

Rating: 5/5 It was a bit of work, but the surgery was successful September 28, 2019 When I opened my wife's MacBook Pro to upgrade the SSD card, I was concerned to find the battery packs were swollen like balloons - even though the battery health was reported as good. Since this is an early 2015 model and not eligible under Apple's recall, I was considering upgrading batteries myself. Have a friend with same model that tried to do upgrade himself with batteries from another company, and it did not go well. Not only did the battery not take a charge, but trackpad and keyboard did not work. He later ordered a battery from OWC and it worked, but also had to replace trackpad and keyboard (keyboard still doesn't work). So not wanting to have my wife's laptop down for weeks and not wanting to spend more on repairs, I watched the repair videos and took a chance with the OWC batteries. I was very careful with antistatic mat and wrist strap, and it took about 1-1/2 hours to replace - I was very careful to follow the instructions. The most difficult part was reconnecting the trackpad cable after replacing battery since there is not a lot of slack to maneuver the small ribbon cable into a very small connector. But it powered up from battery after it was reassembled, and after calibrating charge cycle it seems to be working fine (for a couple weeks now). I like the thoroughness of the videos, the strong cautions about attempting this yourself, and that you get all the parts you need. You just need a lot of patience to do this on your own, but the cost is small compared to authorized repair. I would strongly recommend using a wrist strap connected to an anti-static mat, otherwise the risk of damage to components in laptop are high.

Rating: 5/5 Easier than I expected DO NOT pay Apple for this! August 16, 2019 I was scared sweating to change this! But bought this kit, watched the video a few times, laid each screw out on a paper with labels for which one went where etc It was sooooo easy! The worst was the smell of the adhesive - well-ventilated area is not to be skipped when doing this - but it was easier than removing a spaghetti label off a glass jar. Putting the new battery in needed a little adjusting to get it to sit perfectly flat and have the cable fit back over it to lock in place, but if you just do this very carefully and be patient, it's really easy. Sort of like playing Operation. Screw Apple! I have an early 2015 Macbook Pro which SHOULD be a part of the battery recall they did on earlier models since it was the same issue, swollen battery, but they claimed my serial number wasn't valid for the free battery replacement and wanted $300 to do it. A few local repair places wanted a little less, with labor cost alone a minimum of $75 which comes with only a 3-month battery warranty and would take 5-10 days. This one from OWC has a year warranty, shipped and arrived super quick. I did the install, powered it up, was at 20% charge just as is. Did the whole battery calibration, checked the status in my system report as well as a battery health app - and all is perfect! Its actually made my browser speed lightening fast suddenly when it was so slow before! I have no idea how this can be related, could be a coincidence but either way, I am super happy with this battery. My MacBook is now operating better than ever. If you are like me and fear every 5-star product review is done by fake accounts, I am writing this to say I am real and I did this install, with no experience operating on a computer before. I am usually too lazy to write reviews, but this company deserves the 5 stars for the excellent video, service, and quality. Thank you thank you OWC!

Rating: 1/5 Battery lasted 6 months June 21, 2019 PROS: the installation kit provided all the tools you need, and the installation video was clear and reasonably easy to follow (though the overall degree of difficultly for this particular MBP model is definitely up there).

CONS: battery lasted just over 6 months. It worked fine for most of that time, until it suddenly started dropping from 100% to 0% almost immediately, displaying a message in the status bar reading "Condition: Replace Now".

While OWC stands behind their products and is sending a replacement, I'm less than enthused about enduring the replacement process again. It would have only cost ~$60 more to have a local Mac repair shop swap batteries, and I now wish I had gone that route.

Rating: 4/5 Solid Replacement June 14, 2019 When the battery in my mid 2015 15" MacBook Pro Retina started to swell, there was no question that a NewerTech battery was going to replace it.

Because I'm in Canada, the package contained a note about international shipping restrictions rather than the adhesive remover that people in the USA will receive. 100% acetone nail polish remover is inexpensive and available anywhere, so not a big deal. Everything else required was included.

The instruction video was easy to follow (could do without that background music though! :-). Disassembling and reassembling the computer isn't difficult, but for someone who has never opened up a computer, it might be a little intimidating. You should always carefully document every disassembly step, and the location of every screw, so there are no mistakes when reassembling. Also pay attention to the cables that can be trapped under the logic board before you start reassembling. The display backlight cable in particular is easy to trap under the logic board.

The replacement battery is slightly lower capacity than the original. I expect to get 90-95% battery run time compared to the original battery when the computer was new.

Rating: 5/5 Easy to follow video instruction and a complete toolkit February 24, 2019 You will get everything you need to replace the battery cells, including the pentalobe screwdriver. I recommend you examine everything in the box, because I didn't see the two screwdrivers at first and wasted a lot of time trying to find them in the hardware store. The left upper corner in the video tells you the type of screwdriver you need for the current task at hand, which I found very convenient. The instructional video is clear to watch, straight to the point, and contains everything you need to follow. I am a heavy mac user but I have never in my life opened up my macbook to upgrade or fix anything. So it was a relief to me to find this website that has an instructional video. I successfully replaced the battery and saved myself a lot of money (Apple told me my macbook is old so they no longer have my battery in stock and ask me to go to Apple certified retailer, and the retailer quoted me $600 for the battery job).

Rating: 4/5 Laptop Life Extender January 29, 2019 Replaced a battery that was failing at a reported 30% charge. The replacement procedure is quite involved, but if you keep very careful track of the screws, and are willing to spend about 2 hours prying up the battery and cleaning up the adhesive left in the case, the replacement is otherwise straightforward.

Rating: 5/5 Great Instruction Video January 15, 2019 I read the warning regarding the difficulty of this upgrade and ordered the battery with some fear. But I have to say the instruction video is fantastic, so if you go slow and follow it step by step, it's not that hard. It is messy though, when you get to removing the adhesive!

The only extra tip I would give is to use a piece of cardboard (say the box the battery comes in) to push the screws into, grouping them with the components as you remove them.

Rating: 5/5 Looks intimidating, but just required patience December 31, 2018 Straightforward install especially with the included pentalobe and small torx screwdrivers.

You basically unscrew/remove the bottom panel, unscrew another dozen and a half internal screws and then use the included spudger to shimmy the white credit card like piece of plastic between the old battery and the aluminum frame liberating the old adhesive. I didn't use the provided acetone solution (not really a fan of the vapors), just look a little more effort but otherwise straightforward.

Battery recognized by MacOS, works great (see screenshot).

My one complaint is that the supplied 5 point (pentalobe) screwdriver disintegrated (the points wore off) just as I started buttoning up the computer after the installation of the new battery. Fortunately I was able to find a pentalobe set on Amazon with same-day delivery. Other than that, 5 stars.

Rating: 5/5 Easier to install than I thought November 17, 2018 My original Macbook battery has been gradually getting worse and worse and I always had trepidation replacing the battery myself. It got to the point I had no choice and had to do something. The kit included everything (and more) that I needed and it was far easier than I expected to unglue the outer cells. The hardest part were the center batteries. The step-by-step guide was perfect aside from one thing. When I removed the original battery, it tugged on this little cable that seemed to have bonded to the battery housing over five years. That was the only part that was unexpected.

Great kit. I am so glad I did it!

Rating: 5/5 Not as hard as I expected August 11, 2018 The video instructions make it very simple, step-by-step.

It does not take long to do, but the battery calibration procedure will take the machine out of use for quite a few hours. After I had installed and charged the new battery, my wife used the computer until bedtime, following the instructions to turn off all power savers and leave it running. When I checked it next morning, it was still running nearly 9 hrs later!! It did shut off after about 15 min' use, but had to 'rest' in that state 5 hrs for calibration.

As for procedure, no two people think alike; I would have appreciated a more up-front notice to pay attention to different screw lengths, and which went where. The info was presented on re-assembly, but a little after-the-fact for my liking.

Other than that, no worries - it went very smoothly. The adhesive remover worked well; took only a little bit. (Now, where can I use the remainder?)

Best part is I that having fixed the battery, I became my wife's hero... for the moment. ; >)

Rating: 5/5 Excellent battery replacement and video instructions July 26, 2018 This battery replacement is listed as "difficult" but OWC makes it as easy as possible with including all the tools, safety gear and battery. It took me about 30 minutes and I was taking my time. This is an EVERYTHING IS INCLUDED kit.

As usual, the video production showing clear, step-by-step instructions is easy to pause, complete the step and continue. It is paced perfectly.

I will share a story of what a Mac battery for this laptop will cost. I was first told that the whole back part would have to be replaced and was quoted $350-500!!! The local authorized Apple shop would not touch it because o the adhesive and had to adhere to Apple's replace the top rule.

This battery replacement was my only viable choice, or replace the computer for a cheaper macbook.

Concerning the adhesive... my battery barely needed any solvent to remove it. Use as little as possible.

Thanks OWC. I appreciate the thoughtful and well-designed (and supported) upgrades that nobody else is making. You guys rock!
