Experience the Difference
The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter offers true output flexibility. You can output video from all Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt equipped Macs via one cable to a high definition monitor or TV. You can output BOTH digital audio* and video for a true one cable solution for all your A/V needs.

With this adapter, you can use an external display as your main workspace or to extend your desktop, or you can work in mirrored mode with a projector so you can view what your audience sees.

Use the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter to connect a high definition monitor or television, that includes a HDMI connector. Review the documentation or check with the manufacturer of your monitor or TV to make sure you're choosing the right adapter.

*These Apple computers support video signal only (no audio) over Mini DisplayPort:iMac (Early 2009) and (Mid 2009), Mac Mini (Early 2009) and (Late 2009), Mac Pro (Early 2009), MacBook (Late 2009), MacBook (13-inch Aluminum Late 2008), MacBook Pro (Late 2008, Mid 2009, and Early 2009)

2010 and prior Apple models which do not support Audio via mini-Display Port - when using mini-Display port for HDMI ouput with these systems, only video is available from the Apple mini-Displayport for the resulting HDMI signal. For audio output on these models, a separate connection would be needed. Options for audio on these Mac models include: Toslink or analog cable. Another option would be the Kanex MDP/USB Audio to HDMI Adapter which injects audio into HDMI via USB port connection.

Rating: 4/5 Works great, little fragile November 20, 2015 This adapter works great and will save you money. However, when I went to pull the HDMI cable for the first time, the entire housing came off. It snapped back together fine, and still works, but the quality isn't great. If you are careful with the adapter, it should last a while.

Rating: 4/5 Nice, Cheaper Alternative October 29, 2015 This is a good, cheaper alternative to the original audio adapter from Apple. A little on the flimsy side construction wise, but for the price, it works extremely well.

Just need to be more cautious when removing the HDMI cable, as you could easily tear the adaptor away from the Macbook Pro cable connector. Ensuring you hold the HDMI end of the adaptor firmly whilst removing the cable ensures that it won't pull apart.

Rating: 4/5 Good adapter. December 6, 2014 The adapter is very good, strong plastic, very tight connection. However the tight connection with the HDMI caused the case to come off when trying to get the HDMI cord out. It snapped back, but should be better secured. Overall very happy though, crystal clarity from my MacBook 13" 2010 through a 25' HDMI cable to a 53" Hitachi rear projection (1080i, 720p). No signal loss, really good picture and sound.

Rating: 5/5 Works Like A Charm May 25, 2014 I needed one of these to go with an HDMI headless adapter I'd purchased earlier for an older Mac Mini. It's a special purpose scenario, but the bottom line is the NewerTech Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Video & Audio Adapter filled the need and was less expensive than a similar Apple branded adapter. Thanks, OWC.

Rating: 4/5 OWC got their facts wrong on AUDIO transfer. August 21, 2012 It's a great product that works perfectly, but OWC got their facts wrong on providing information for this product. They say it supports the transfer of HD video AND audio from a HDMI cable to your HD-TV and they provide a long list of macs that support this. Thing is, mac and macbook models that where created before 2010, most of them do not support the transferring of AUDIO together with video on their mini-display ports. So, if you have one of those macbooks (like i do, and was mislead by OWC) audio will not be transferred, and you will be required to use an extra cable from your mini-jack port in order to have audio on your preferred device. Google this before considering purchasing.

Response from MacSales.com, Marketing February 20, 2013 The compatibility of this product is correct. It is not a limitation of the adapter, but rather what the Apple mini-Display port outputs on specific models. Apple did not originally include support for audio output via the Mini-Displayport connection and in such case the output is video only. With such systems, one option is to separately connect digital audio with Toslink http://eshop.macsales.com/search/toslink or analog cable http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/PODCONNECTOR/ . Another option would be the Kanex MDP/USB Audio to HDMI Adapter http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Kanex/IADAPT20/ which takes Stereo Audio via USB and injects it into the HDMI stream so you only then need the HDMI cable to go from the adapter to the output device for both video and audio to the display device.

Rating: 5/5 It just works! April 7, 2011 If it didn't know better, I would have thought this adapter was actually made by Apple. The design of the product, the way it functions and the build quality are just that good. I initially bought the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter, but then realized how much easier it would be to just use my TV's HDMI port (to have both audio and video simultaneously). Picked up this adapter and was up and running in just a few minutes, with full support for my 720P Sharp Aquos TV, including audio (all you have to do is go into Sound in System Preferences and change the output over to HDMI). There's a lot of similar adapters on the market, but they all seem to have mixed reviews - while this one was a relative unknown, I took the chance on it since OWC is known for solid products - and once again, they have exceeded my expectations. This is a must have for anyone who has a MacBook/Air/Pro and wants to use their relatively modern TV with it.

Rating: 5/5 This is the nuts February 16, 2011 Hands down the way to go to hook up your chosen mac to a HDTV. Dongle easily hides in your bag, HDMI port hooks to any HDMI cable and set. Audio transport totally works on machines that support it (although Apple could make that configuration a little more obvious/automatic in a future update - you have got to change your system audio device after connecting.) NewerTech also tried entirely too hard to make this look like an official Apple dongle, the white plastic and styling is spot on.

I would recommend this item to a friend!
