The Right Tools for the Job
Yes, You Can Do-It-Yourself
- A small number of 2012 units were shipped with the drive mounted in the upper drive bay rather than the more typical lower bay shown in this video. If you have a 2012 or later model, you will want to determine the configuration of your Mac mini's drives prior to ordering. To do this, open Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app and click on the grey drive icon at the left-edge of the window. If you see "Lower" after the "Connection ID" at the bottom-left corner of the window, you may proceed using the standard installation instructions. If you see "Upper" then you have a special configuration which will need additional components, and you will need to also refer to the Addendum video.
- Before attempting this installation, OWC recommends watching the associated instructional video in its entirety to determine your ability to perform this complex procedure. OWC assumes no responsibility for damage that may occur during the install.

Customer Reviews
I like the 1TB drive - used the data doubler kit to add it to an old mac mini and I think I've got a great little box now for a great price and the installation was straightforward.
I would recommend this product to a friend!

Thank you for sharing your fantastic experience! We're thrilled to hear that you're enjoying your new 1TB drive and that the installation with the data doubler kit was a breeze! It’s awesome to know that you’ve transformed your old Mac mini into a great little powerhouse. Enjoy all that extra space and performance!
Clever add on. Not too complicated to install but requires some attention. There was a missing part (the SATA cable for the 2nd drive) but OWC's excellent customer service sent me one promptly. They also helped me clarify a misundertanding about the brackets, etc. with sent photos etc. It's real human service for the definitive responses (I think outsourced after hours). Very happy overall. OWC continues to be the leader in upgrading and extending Macs. :)

Thank you for your honest feedback! We are happy to hear that installation went well! Sorry to hear about the missing part but we're always happy to help to make sure the installation goes great and clarify any questions you have! Enjoy your now upgraded Mac.
I got the installation completed, but damaged the IR sensor connector on the main board. It would have been helpful to provide more detailed warning about the possible damage and the best way to remove that connector. Happy with improved performance and added space.
