Rating: 5/5 Nice kit, worked perfectly November 23, 2016 Just got my kit yesterday, and installed the new SSD last night. If you're at all handy and you watch the associated video a couple of times before getting started, you should have no trouble. You do work with some fiddly little wires though, so be careful.

The only thing I found in real life that wasn't covered in the video, is some of the cables are kind of glued in place. You have to unstick them as you go, but in the video it looks like they are just swinging in the breeze.

My kit came with a Phillips screw driver that wasn't mentioned in the listing. It was handy to have (as you need one to remove the RAM door), but I think it would be far more helpful to have a set of tweezers instead. Tweezers are pretty much required for the job (as shown in the video) and I had to improvise, whereas I already had a number of Phillips screw drivers around.

Total install time was about 45 minutes, and I don't doubt that if you did it enough, you could do it about as fast as the how-to video.

Rating: 4/5 Complete kit January 16, 2016 I performed the installation of an SSD (as secondary disk) in my 2011 iMac without a hitch using this kit. Installation *IS* fairly involved and complex but certainly doable ! See attached screenshot for proof :)

Rating: 4/5 All the essentials plus some handy extras. October 15, 2015 This kit was indispensable for my SSD project because of the cables, although I suppose I could have made do with the kit that only has the cables. This kit has all the screwdrivers, spudgers, pliers etc. I needed plus extras, so that it will still be handy as a general-purpose toolkit for other jobs. The vacuum clamps also made the job much easier than making do with tools I already had, although one of them was a bit tricky to get it to grip, and let go while I was carrying the glass! Luckily I recovered without damage. If it weren't for that, I'd rate this at 4 stars.

Rating: 5/5 The Perfect Kit July 24, 2015 The quality of the tools were very good for the price. It had everything I needed and then some. There's no way I could have done the SSD upgrade without it. The DIY video was also very good.

Rating: 5/5 Nice and Smooth June 12, 2015 100% satisfied! My old iMac is now as fast as a new one. Yes - you need to be experienced to work with screwdrivers and electronics. But I had absolutely no problems. It seems to me that OWC exchanged the SATA cable other reviews complained about. The one I got perfectly worked.

Rating: 5/5 Great toolkit! June 5, 2015 I did that upgrade last weekend, with help of my son in law. All ran right, no problem, and now my iMac is working very fast!! I add a SSD OCZ Vertex 460A 480GB under the optical drive in my iMac 21.5"mid 2011. We take around three hours to do the upgrade. At the same way, the instruction's video from OWC was very important to show the correct way to do each step. Thank you very much!

Rating: 5/5 Great product and Instructions - Poor Shipping February 25, 2015 Thanks OWC. Installed my SSD with your kit and video! Everything went well and your little hints (such as using the tweezers to catch the screws) helped alot. Everything was helpful even the client service when I called to follow up on my order. The only negative thing I have to say is the shipping time. I ordered on Feb 11th and did not receive my product until Feb 24. If you could add an estimated delivery date beside the prices maybe that would help. Thanks for a great kit and thanks for my lightning speed computer!

Rating: 5/5 works great September 24, 2014 I use this tools set to replace my 2009 IMAC internal HDD to a SSD.

They worked very well. Just be careful when insert the ribbon connecter. I almost ruined the connector - really bad design on Apple's part - the gold contact is getting loose from the ribbon.

Rating: 4/5 Good and complete kit with "wrong" SATA cable August 19, 2014 Installing an SSD in the iMac is do-able, but certainly not easy. Especially mounting the main board back into place can be a challenge.

One reason for this is the SATA cable. A cable with two straight plugs is supplied with the kit, but it the straight connector is a few mm's too high, which pushes the main board forward. A right angle connector (or shorter straight connector) would have been better.

Response from MacSales.com, Product Support August 20, 2014 We do state that this is a very difficult installation and highly recommend professional installation on this kit. We also have found that a straight ended connectors allow the most tolerance and versatility for the installation. The routing of an angled connector can cause undue stress on the port itself and possibly block another cable connection point depending on your original configuration. That said, while the original DIY Kit we put together did have SATA cables with the straight end connector towards the long end of the tolerance spectrum, these kits do now ship with SATA cables that have shorter connectors, making reassembly just a little easier.

Rating: 5/5 Quite a challenge, but worth it! May 17, 2014 I bought a 480GB SSD for my 21.5" mid 2011 21.5" iMac. The installation was hairy, I had to disassemble the Mac to bits and pieces. The instructional video saved me, I watched the video step by step during the installation, and made no mistakes. The most challenging part was to keep the screws that keep the screen in place off the magnets that in turn keep the front glass in place. Some of the connectors are difficult to reconnect, but with some patience everything went fine. The tools are good, especially the suction cups for the glass. It is worth to print screen captures of the parts of the video, where the connectors are shown. My iMac is now a completely different computer, very fast!

Rating: 2/5 Disappointed January 18, 2014 I have a couple of major complaints about the kit. The SATA cable connectors are very stiff and it has the longest connectors I have ever seen on a SATA cable! When you are working in a tight enclosure like the 21" iMac space is an absolute premium. I was very concerned when I attached the SATA cable and saw how far it pushed the logic board away from the back of the enclosure actually leaving a bulge in the logic board. This kit, and also the difficulty of getting the logic board back in position could be much improved by providing a 90 degree SATA cable at the logic board end or even one with a shorter connector length to provide more room. I contacted OWC they suggested the SATA cables are meant to be bent over (I could not find any suggestion like this in the install video or written instructions) I bend the connector over still left a bulge in the logic board. I suppose in time with heating and cooling inside the iMac the connector will relax some at least I hope so. Also the power cable was shipped defective two of the four wires were pulled loose for the small plastic connector. OWC suggested I return it for a replacement I suggested they improve their quality control. I was on a very tight schedule needed the computer the next day so I carefully soldered the wires back to the connector. On the positive side the iMac is working very well with the new SSD drive. Some parts of the kit are OK but you might want to consider just putting your own together. Also to their favor OWC did mention to me they will carefully review this kit in the future and they appreciate input that can help them improve their products.

Rating: 3/5 Good but ... April 28, 2013 I purchased this kit recently from the UK and it arrived in good time. The installation video is great and was a real help to me throughout the process. Although this is a difficult install, as long as you take your time and pay attention it is fairly straightforward once you get going.

The provided tools are good quality, and made short work of the various tasks required to fit the drive.

I do however have one major complaint about the kit. The SATA cable is rubbish. It's too long, and it has the longest connectors I have ever seen on a SATA cable! When you are working in a tight enclosure like the 21" iMac space is an absolute premium. I pretty much freaked out when I attached the SATA cable and saw how far it pushed the logic board away from the back of the enclosure. This kit, and also the difficulty of getting the logic board back in position and therefore the overall job could be improved dramatically by providing a 90 degree SATA cable or even one with a shorter connector length to provide some more wiggle room.

I'm overall happy with the end result, my iMac is now flying along with an extra HDD and I would use the tools again for other jobs. Thanks OWC.

Rating: 3/5 Too expansive and not everything is useful December 3, 2012 The Philipps PH 2 screwdriver doesn't fit very well the RAM access door screws and I have been forced to use another screwdriver from a friend toolbox :( a classic screw driver by the way, not even a philipps or Torx. The only other screwdriver used in this operation was the Torx 10. Why providing this 11 piece set if only 2 are required ? I used the Torx 8 to change the HDD and that made 3 useful out of the 8.

The Cleaning Cloth was very useful to clean the LCD and glass before mounting it at the end. The suction cups worked seamlessly. The Sata data cable is straight and could be better with a 90° connector at one end for the motherboard, and being 10 cm shorter.

At the end I find it expansive for the only specific part that is the Sata power cable !
