Before installing this SSD, I upgraded my 12 year old 27" mid-201 iMac from 16 GB to 32 GB using the memory upgrade kit from OWC (I seriously thought the max memory I could install was 16 GB). That alone made a whole world of difference. I then wonder what a SSD do in terms of further increasing a 12 year old iMac's performance, so I ordered a 2 TB SSD kit from OWC and had it shipped 2-days. The kit comes with everything you need, including Torx screwdrivers. The hardest part wasn't removing the screws and taking the iMac apart. In fact the hardest step was switching the cable from the factory drive and connecting it with the included OWC splitter cable and then connecting it to the SSD. Attaching the drive splitter cable requires you to blindly press the cable connector onto the board, which is hard already but impossible if you have fat fingers. You can definitely remove the board for clearance but it requires several extra steps and screws. Before upgrading my 27" mid-2010 iMac from 16 GB with OWC 32 GB memory kit and 2 GB Pro 6G SSD, start up literally took 4 minutes from the gray Apple logo and tune to being able to control my mouse on the desktop. After upgrading the memory, start up was cut down by half and took just about 2 minutes from start up to controlling my mouse. With the SSD installed, startup literally was 19 seconds. 19 seconds! While 19 seconds may still be considered long by today iMacs, I was used to my 12 year old iMac taking 4 minutes to start! Latest version of Adobe Photoshop CC that's compatible with High Sierra took only 8 seconds to launch. Illustrator CC took 12 seconds to launch. Best of all, no spinning/whirling hard drive sound. It's like using a brand new computer!
