Specs
250GB OWC Mercury Electra 3G 2.5-inch 7mm SATA 3.0Gb/s Solid-State Drive
- 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending upon operating environment (typically 5-10% less). The actual total capacity will depend on your own defined file settings/preferences.
- Temperature reporting is currently an unsupported feature because due to the operating characteristics of SSDs, it is highly unlikely one would ever exceed an OWC Mercury SSD's stated operating temperature ceiling of 158F/70C. However, we are looking into supporting this feature in the future via a firmware update. Firmware updates can be found here: http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/OWC/SSD.

Installing a hard drive into an iMac of any era is no small feat. I'd opened an iMac previous to do this once, and but its still an involved experience. That said, the kit made it straightforward enough to understand. A couple of thoughts on the instruction videos: There are videos for replacing the hard disk with another spinning disk, and for adding the SSD alongside the existing disk. While most anyone doing this can probably figure it out, I think it'd be worth having a video that explicitly replaces the original drive with the SSD in the adapter, with the temperature sensor placed properly. I don't think it's particularly hard to get wrong, but having an official method might make one feel more confident. As a last note, I had a big hiccup getting the iMac to startup after wards. I searched online and someone suggested that if I'd broken the vertical sync cable, to just leave it unplugged. I opened it up again and unplugged it, and the iMac started right up! The cable didn't look damaged though. I plugged it back in and everything still booted - so I assume I didn't have it seated properly the first time. There's not a lot of space to work with the display unscrewed. Anyway, I'm happy with my iMac with the SSD. New life in an old machine!

Very very good video, clear and easy to follow. BUT It would be a good idea to make the view to the reconnecting the very small connectors a little larger or better explained.. Especially the one for the temperature control of the HD and the one for the LED temp as well, it is extremely difficult to guess which way does the connector goes in. I had to replay the video many time and finally on a very large screen to see the thin wires are to the front... I may have a problem, while reinstalling I have damaged the tiny vertical seat connector on the upper left side, while pushing it down 2 wires got bent... I am trying to straighten them and push it inside the socket properly... it may not work... is it possible to buy a replacement connector. see second picture attached. If it doesn't work all that work will have been a waste. Otherwise a perfect DIY to save a very good old Mac. Congratulations to Mr.Shane for his remarquable tech support. Case: 02131503
