Mercury Extreme Pro SSD and iMac HDD Kit
Upgrade with Confidence!
The complete solution for your 2009 - 2010 iMac
Experience the extreme performance of an OWC SSD upgrade with this easy DIY SSD and hard drive replacement kit. Add an SSD to your hard drive equipped iMac to experience faster booting, near instant application launches and lightning fast data transfer speeds.
Starts fast, stays fast
Even though many SSDs use low cost, less robust components in their design, they can still offer enticing short term bust speeds which are perfectly suitable for light duty uses. However, those drives are not designed to deliver consistent sustained speeds over their capacity rating, which results in a dramatic slowdown to even hard drive speeds under demanding use.
The fifth generation of Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD was built to start fast and stay fast at over 500MB/s sustained. Its development began with using the best flash storage components and technology available. Next, after being nearly completely filled to capacity with data, it had to deliver the same high speed as if it were empty. This drive doesn’t flinch at any time or capacity level and drop read/write speeds like other drives do…it easily handles the most extreme, mission-critical uses you can throw at it.
Upgrade Your iMac with Confidence.
OWC's in-line solution is the only hardware digital thermal sensor on the market allowing a third-party SATA drive to be installed in your iMac. A convenient, plug-and-play cable, the In-line Digital Thermal Sensor eliminates fan noise and maintains proper system fan control through the iMac's System Management Controller. This innovative device is designed specifically for the iMac, requires no software hacks and ensures compatibility with Apple's built-in diagnostic processes.
The NewerTech AdaptaDrive has been benchmark test proven to deliver the same data transfer rates as is experienced when a drive is connected directly to the SATA data bus. The AdaptaDrive doesn't create a bottleneck or any performance throttling...it delivers pure data pass-through performance and drive use convenience from any 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s, 3Gb/s, or 6Gb/s hard drive or SSD.

Good kit but needed professional installation
July 11, 2018
I have successfully installed upgrades, hard drives, memory, and optical drives in several Apple computers including an Apple IIc, a Power Mac 5400, and an iMac G5. I felt comfortable attempting the SSD upgrade on my 21.5" Mid 2010 iMac using the well done OWC install video as a guide, however I was unsuccessful. I was not able to successfully reinstall the display port cable and ended up retiring the computer and replacing it with a used 21.5" Mid 2011 iMac from OWC. Nothing wrong with the kit or the install video from OWC but my skill level was not up to the challenge. Suggest professional installation for a 21.5" Mid 2010 iMac or similar computer unless you have experience removing and replacing the display on a computer with a similar display port connector. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Mercury 1.0TB SSD- fast, easy install
August 22, 2017
This SSD replaced a corrupted HDD (remember to back up folks!). Selecting the correct install video was confusing after two similar videos showed in the play list. Once I found the correct video the install was quick and easy. I used the upgrade kit with suction cups, Torx drivers and pry tool. Not having completed this install before I didn't want to chance damaging components so I tried the upgrade kit. Looking back I'm sure I could have removed the glass without the suction cups and used a pry tool from my cycling kit bag. The install video was the best help. The video quality was high and the sound was clear enough to follow without wondering what the instructions were. The most challenging step was removing cables in the system. The clips had never been touched and were too small for a firm grip. The video zoomed in to show well enough how to remove the clips. The SSD installed easily and I didn't take nearly as long as the recommended time. Once powered I noticed a significant increase in speed- computer boot, read / write operations, internet searches, everything. I'm very pleased with the drive. I would recommend this item to a friend!
