My original SSD for my MBP, mid-2015 had "died". OWC was very VERY helpful in ensuring that I had a replacement SSD and in a short time frame. Not only that, but I had called to ask if my new SSD required a firmware update; they were very helpful in ensuring that I did not need one. Thank you, OWC for such excellent service! Hopefully SSD's will be available for replacement in the forthcoming MBP's. If so, OWC should be the lead provider.

Ok, I purchased this 480GB OWC Aura SSD back in July. I thought I could just put the new drive in the enclosure, clone the drive and drop it in WRONG , DO NOT DO THAT ! THE 480 RUNS MUCH HOTTER AND WILL BE DESTROYED IN THE ENCLOSURE! You can only use the enclosure for your old mac drive. Mine, 250 gig. Thankfully Mac Sales RMA'd the mess I created and I got it back. So why did I not immediately swap ? Fear. I could not take another failure during my being self employed. I held off until I had a critical failure in an app and had to upload back up and I figured , WTH, lets do it. I have constantly been struggling with drive space, living on 10 and 15 gigs. So I did it. The drive swap takes minutes, the COMMAND R reinstall of a fresh system 20 minutes, the reinstall of 250 gigs from your cloned USB drive , hours by USB mechanical back up drive (if the old SSD had not had a failure it would have been minutes, probably best to clone when things are perfect). So I have probably blown my warranty but I had no choice with it being critical I stay up. It does run warmer but I my Macbook sits on a fan so the heat is a nonissue. I learned that after m,y apple batteries became swollen and died. This version has a large heat sink that transfers it fine to the case. If it is slower I don't notice. Micro seconds are imperceptible. So now it is installed and it seems fine. Just need to keep it cool. Good stuff. I would recommend this item to a friend! Very Satisfied with OWC SSD

My SSD had a fault and when I took it to Apple Store they charged a higher price and said they would retain my old SSD. I happened to find OWC and ordered my SSD with them. I was a little nervous as I am in UK and this needs to be shipped from US. I never repaired my mac before and hence nervousness.
OWC has such a detailed website which guides all the way through. I chose the SSD Upgrade Kit which came with all the tools needed and also the Envoy Pro. I was able to complete the upgrade with in 15 mins, ofcourse it would have been difficult / longer with out the videos from OWC.

Ordered this for my boss's laptop, his old stock drive was having problems slowing down, and he wanted more space. After I found this drive we ordered the larges fastest one over night. Fedex crushed the box and damaged the drive, I was able to contact support and get a replacement sent the next day. He uses Windows 10 all the time, installing a new fresh install was one of the fastest I have seen. The extra drive holder is nice to have so you can copy your files back from your old drive. He continues to tell me how his computer now feels as though it is a brand new laptop. If you have an older Mac and want to get more life out of it, a slow drive, or need more space this seems to be the best choice. I would recommend this item to a friend! Smooth no issue upgrade!

I have a MBP with a 512GB SSD drive (machine ID: 11,3) and I was cramped for space and after considering my options I decided to bite the bullet and spring for the kit version with the external housing and Torx drivers. Since I had the paid version of SuperDuper I made a backup before I attempted install. But it wasn't needed . After installing the new SSD I just put the backplate back on (I carefully blew the dust out of the unit while it was open) and booted the old drive that I had installed into the SSD housing after the swap out. Once I booted to that drive I simply ran SuperDuper and copied the old drive contents to the new drive, and re-booted...Done! For whatever reason however, it seems that it takes longer to boot than it did before. But this might be due to a non-fresh install rather than their recommended method of doing an install from scratch and restoring via Time Machine. Anyway once booted it is noticeably faster than before so I am satisfied with it ATM. I would recommend this item to a friend! I purchased the 480GB Aura SSD for my MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13" Late 2013. My iTunes and iPhoto libraries exceed the 200GB mark which was forcing me to have them moved on an external drive (totally defeats the purpose of having a notebook). With the swap of the 250GB drive with the 480GB Aura SSD, I eliminated the need for an external drive. When I first installed the Aura, I did a fresh install (without formatting the drive) with El Capitan and once installed, I noticed that the drive appeared as an external drive on the system. (A relative notice is shown in the product page) However, last week I formatted the SSD during the installation of High Sierra and now, the system appears as a normal internal SSD! Just wanted to clarify, the Aura showing as an external drive is a known issue with how Apple was reading our drives. This does not affect performance at all, simply shows a different Icon for the drive on the desktop. Glad to hear it is recognized properly in the new update!

My wife was down to her last few GB of space on her 500GB drive, so this 1TB upgrade was just the thing to get her out of trouble. The online youtube directions were fine for me to physically change the drive - not very complicated (as long as you have the right screwdrivers). The only thing I would add is when you have the MacBook opened up, CLEAN OUT THE DUST first. There are extensive directions about restoring your previous installation onto the new drive, but I thought this was silly. All you have to do is have a current backup on Time Machine. You boot into recovery mode, and restore from the external Time Machine drive. That's ALL you have to do (it even erases and formats the new drive correctly). Not sure why they have all this complicated stuff - if you use Time Machine to back up, it is trivial to restore (although you have to let it run a few hours). I just purchased a new MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display mid 2015 but it came with shamelessly little storage. I am not a computer geek or particularly adept at fixing things but I took the plunge and purchased the 1.0 TB OWC SSD upgrade kit. I like the idea of being able to reuse the SSD that came with my MacBook Pro too. I must have watched the how-to video 20 times before i got up my courage to open my new computer and go for it. The only problem I had was the unplugging the battery - I tore the sticky plastic overlay a bit removing the battery connection. Also, there was relatively little in any of the documentation from MacSales regarding installing the OS on the new SSD - but wonders of wonders I was able to figure it our myself thanks to YouTube and Apple help. I have been using the new SSD for several weeks now and it works great. So does the Envoy Pro I would recommend this item to a friend! I am very satisfied with the SSD upgrade that I purchased. Not only does my new drive work great, but now I also have an awesome external hard drive! The installation process was not very difficult, and all the provided tools worked well. To improve this product and aid in the installation process, I think that a plastic pry tool should be included to help get the laptop battery unplugged, as I had a little trouble getting that open. Aside from that, everything works as expected, all installation procedures were pretty easy, and I received lots of customer support emails (though I did not need to reach out to a representative). Installed a 1TB SSD in my wife's early 2015 Macbook Retina (with 125GB installed). Arrived fast. Packaging and instructions were clear and easy to understand. Online instructions and videos helped tremendously. Installation was smooth and quicker than I expected. Tools included worked flawlessly - no stripping of screws or any issues like I read about. I also received an email and a phone call from support in case I needed additional help, which I didn't, but it was nice to know there was help available. How many companies do that? Everything is woking fine. Made an ElCapitan flash installer and restored everything from Time Machine backup - my wife barely noticed a difference. Is running quicker. Flawless upgrade

With the help of the product documentation, the do it yourself video, and the supplied tools, this upgrade installation was flawless. No do overs, no damage and Timemachine restored my system to original with no lost files or data. MacSales provided the correct parts/tools, delivery was on time and in perfect new condition. If you do your homework and know which way to turn a screw driver, you can do this upgrade and I would recommend this product upgrade to anyone. I would recommend this item to a friend!
