Good, could be better
August 24, 2016
Biggest flaw with this kit is with the external case. First impression I received was the little clear plastic LED optic piece fell off while separating the two halves. No big deal, spot of super glue problem solved. Then the fine print. The external only supports Apple drives. Not the OWC drive that ships with it. With this caveat it makes a simple drive swap a bit more difficult. As a matter of fact you can void your OWC warranty if the drive is used in the external case.
The drive...Holy Hotness! Be prepped for some additional heat on your lap. It's done the job. Going from the stock 120GB to 1TB. It'll be a nice upgrade. Happy about that.

One key issue with the SSD upgrade kit...
July 29, 2016
As always, OWC service was quick and accurate for this order. Thank you! One issue with the upgrade kit kind of grates: I did not find out until I read the instructions that came with the SSD enclosure that OWC SSD's would not work, only original Apple equipment. This is annoying, because further upgrades would make the enclosure obsolete when moving from a smaller OWC drive to a larger OWC drive. Would be less annoying if that fact was highlighted better in the product description on the OWC website. But other than that, no worries. Cheers, Gerry I would recommend this item to a friend!

Upgrade Late 2013 Macbook pro - 1TB
July 27, 2016
SSD is a least as fast as my original 256MB SSD. It fits ok inside the casing and I can now work everyday without the need to remove files ! Apple shoud definitely propose bigger storage cpacities... The main issue with this SSD is the temperature it reaches when used.
Also it does not fit into the upgrade kit box. Only use it for your original SSD. It tried to use the 1TB SSD in the provided casing without closing it in order to clone the drive but this is not a good idea because the SSD will get to hot during copy.
The best way to do is to make a timemachine backup, then just replace the SSD, the mac will start in recovery mode. You can then easily restore the data back from the timemachine backup on to the new SSD. So the upgrade kit casing is only useful if you want to use your previous SSD as an external drive after upgrade. Otherwise, order the SSD only.
I used it intensively for more than 3 months now and I still works very well.
One annoying thing to note: the SSD is getting hot, so when I use the macbook pro in my bed, it gets too hot for my belly. I also noticed that the battery life will decrease faster than before.

Excellent product
July 18, 2016
I purchased this drive because my 13" 2.9 GHZ MBP's 500GB SSD was getting near to being full.
The drive arrived to Ireland very quickly and the packaging was very sturdy.
The only minor issue with installation was that I (stupidly) tried to install my new drive into the envoy enclosure so that I could clone it first, before installing it into the Mac. Thankfully I didn't try to close the lid on the envoy enclosure. I contacted technical support regarding my dilemma and they came straight back to me.
Installation in the Mac was very easy. 10 minutes tops.
The drive was so good that I subsequently purchased a refurbished 3.1GHZ Mac with a 128GB SSD from Apple with the sole intention of purchasing another 1TB SSD from MacSales and installing it.
Altogether a great product and top class after sales service. Why can't all companies be like this?

Exceptionally easy to install, works well
July 5, 2016
The instructions provided with the upgrade kit were clear, although there were some steps that it turned out that I did not need to perform on my early 2015 13" MacBook Retina. Before you begin, check out the several YouTube videos; I found them helpful. The toolkit that OWC provided was complete and surprisingly high quality. All it lacked was a spudger, which I bought for $3 at our local Microcenter store. And it's really nice to have a terabyte of SSD storage on my machine, I would recommend this item to a friend!

Just as advertised
July 3, 2016
1TB SSD Installed in less than 20 minutes, Fresh download of the new operating system one and a half hours. Transfer data from old SSD to new 45 minutes. No issues whatsoever. One of the best buys I have ever made. New SSD enclosue works great, issue is with closure, Need to shorten the internal screw post as they prevent the enclosur from completly closing leaving a 1mm gap @ the USB end. Don't want to file post down till I am up and running for a while. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Great upgrade for my MacBook Air
June 28, 2016
I have been waiting for a larger SSD for my mid-2013 MacBook Air, and have been frustrated that one has not been available until now. I bought the kit that included a housing for my old SSD, and the entire installation of the new 1 TB SSD in my MacBook Air and installing the old one in the housing took less that 30 minutes. The video instructions were great, and the entire process was straightforward. I now have 535 GB of free space, and everything runs faster. Since this is a brand new product, I can't comment on durability, but I've been using it daily for nearly a month now without a problem. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Worked as hoped! (finally)
June 19, 2016
The drive on my MacBook Pro (late 2013 Retina) was starting to fail (based on SMART warning). I bought this to replace it; however, when I purchased it, I did not see that it was not Bootcamp compatible. I still used it as the original drive needed to be replaced. Within a month of replacing it, they released the fix to make it Bootcamp compatible. Now my MacBook is back to the way I wanted it and I have a 1 TB drive. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Great Upgrade
June 11, 2016
This was as easy to upgrade as shown in the excellent videos. The caddy for the old drive was great as well. I never expected it to be so easy to get my Mac running exactly as it was in the old one but it was. As soon as I restored the backup (wrong terminology) my Mac was exactly the same as previously. Full marks. The only negative thing is that the screws holding the base cover of the Mac are easily damaged and I have 2 screws that I can't remove anymore - it would be handy if a set of screws was included with the upgrade. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Works Great - Install could be easier
June 3, 2016
Have a MBPro, tried to use the new drive in the new external drive case. To make sure new drive is good before opening up the laptop to take out drive. Turns out only the old drive works in the external drive case? The new drive will not work for booting your MBPro which would have been nice to confirm the new drive before you rip out the old one. Once you give in and put the new drive in, it will work fine. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Supercharged my Macbook Pro
May 26, 2016
The 1 TB SSD drive was just what I needed to replace my 256GB original. The installation videos were all I needed even tho I had never done anything like this. Using the external kit to put my original in my settings and data migrated easily and I was up and running in no time. It even moved my Parallels software and Windows 10 to the new drive without having to restore or re-install the Windows partition, Sure glad I found OWC when I needed to upgrade my Mac I would recommend this item to a friend!

Best thing is I waited, and it came out for the 2015 Mac Book Air
May 24, 2016
I ordered the 1TB SSD for my MacBook Air, 2015 7,2 version and got it yesterday, removed the bottom cover and took out the SSD that came with the computer. Installed the 1TB SSD, with one screw, and that was all there was to do. reinstalled the bottom and did The Command/R and got it up and running, transform my files from my back up, took about an hour, and done. Noticed that when I booted the machine up, it was a lot faster and now I have more storage room. So with the ease of putting in a new SSD card and up and running in less that 1 ½ hour that is great. best of all the staff from MacSales was very helpful and made sure I got the right item for my laptop. I have to thank MacSales for the products they put out, and for all the times I have felt with them, they be best... If you need for Mac, they have. I would recommend this item to a friend!

** Excellent Opportunity to 4x my storage **
May 24, 2016
Having the ability to increase my SSD storage from 256GB to 1TB is not doubt an asset; at the same time it extends the useful life of my computer. Yes, the system does not responds as fast as before but it is understandable; now it has four times the capacity. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Good but not as fast
May 22, 2016
After installation (which is quiet easy and plenty of how-to available) I benchmarked the disk. It does not perform as fast as the original SSD from Apple albeit still better than SATA based SSD. So If you are after capacity over performance this is for you.
PS after each installation reset NVRAM/PRAM and SMC is recommended

Finally! 1TB SSD for my MBP!
May 14, 2016
I had wanted an internal 1TB ssd for my late-2013 MacBook Pro for a couple of years and I was always surprised that there was not one available before now. So one night I googled it again, and I found this product - pricey, but I bought it.
Only after I received it did I realize that I could not install Windows to it via Bootcamp. In fact, I could not find a way to install Windows to the drive (after it was installed to the MBP) at all! I use OSX for my personal stuff, but I use Windows for work. The whole reason I wanted a 1TB drive was so that I could have an internal drive that would host both operating systems (I did not want to use a virtual machine, and I did not try.)
However, after searching far and wide, I did find a method by which to install both OSX (El Capitan) and Windows 10. I followed the instructions I found on a blog called "St. Ignatius College Prep Tech Blog" posted by Alan Siu Page 5 on December 22, 2015 (If one were to google that, one would find the page I reference. The post is about three-quarters the way down the page.) It details a simple way to install OSX, then create a second "Mac OSX Journaled" partition - then use a freeware tool called rEFInd to get Windows to install on that second partition.
So, after years of running Windows from an external hard drive connected to my MBP via the "Lighting" port, I am finally completely "self-contained".
I decided to 'migrate' my previous OSX to the new drive, but I chose to go with a new, clean installation of Windows 10. The Bootcamp Driver installation started automatically after installation of Windows 10 for me, and the entire setup works perfectly.
I hope this post helps someone, since it took me several hours to finally find the solution that worked!
So, nice product! I'm glad OWC created it!

Amazing SSD! Bad Screwdriver...
May 4, 2016
I bought the kit to upgrade my 13 inch Retina 2015 Macbook Pro, I'm a software developer and fairly skilled on hardware issues.
OWC shipping was very fast! In less than a week I had it in my hands!
The SSD is Blazing fast and the installation is VERY easy, my only problem was the screwdriver provided with the kit. After sorting the screwdriver situation (described below) I was up and running in 2 hours! All my work restored to the same point as before the upgrade! Even the apps I left open where there when I started it!
I used the T5 screwdriver that came with the kit to open the Laptop easily, but when it came to unscrewing the SSD, the screwdriver didn't do a very good job, the screw didn't budge and the screwdriver got it's head damaged.
In the end, I had a friend use his tools to unscrew the SSD screw and I can't screw the envoy case.
Oh, for the people thinking of ordering this to Brazil, the customs taxes are crazy! (almost the same price as the product)

Good upgrade alternative, but not 100% compatible
April 21, 2016
Since this is not an "Apple brand" recognized hard drive, the logic board sees this drive as an "external drive". That's fine, it will still function and OS X will work on it, but it will not allow you to install Boot Camp and have Windows on your Mac. So it's a good drive if you just want to have OS X on it, but not so good for Boot Camp users. I would recommend this item to a friend!

The 1TB Aura PCIe-based flash drive is very simple to install as long as you are careful and have the right tools. The package comes well protected, very well packaged, and I recommend ordering the special tool kit even though you may already have tools. I've installed several SSD's in older MacBook Pros but this was the first PCIe-based flash drive installation. My only product critique is the fact that there is a thermal layer attached to the top of the SSD (somewhat unique to the PCIe card) and I assume used to dissipate heat directly from the SSD by bonding to the case. There were minimal instructions about this use of this thermal layer, and it is probably critical to keeping the SSD cool. Other than that, the installation is very straightforward and appropriately covered by the instructional videos on the OWC website. Would HIGHLY recommend this product for those struggling with the minimal storage originally offered in the late 2013 MacBook Pro! I will update this review after using the drive for a while, but so far it is great! I would recommend this item to a friend!
