Rating: 5/5 Easy to fit March 19, 2017 A really easy upgrade to breath new life into my MacBook Air. Took less than ten minutes to complete the installation, and then a couple of hours to reboot, rebuild and test the machine.

Tried a restore from TimeCapsule, but after doing so thought I may as well do the complete clean install and really get it running as quickly as possible. Not regretting that choice. The old 240Gb SSD in the Envoy enclosure is now slipped into the carry bag with a couple of partitions on it for different projects. I am thinking I might put a bootable disk on it as well as an emergency solution while travelling.

Rating: 5/5 Best decision ever January 8, 2017 I was originally going to take my late 2010 MacBook Air to a shop to have the storage upgraded. They quoted me (at the high end) about $400 for parts and labor and 7 to 10 days to turn it around. That's when I stumbled across this package. I was a little wary at first. I've worked on several PCs, but am new to the hardware of Macs. This kit came with everything I needed, the hardware swap was simple and straight forward using their available videos and after installing a Time Machine backup, she was up and running with the new hardware at half the cost and way less time than taking it to a shop. I'd definitely recommend this upgrade over and over.

Every thing about the installation was easy and straightforward. OWC provided everything that I needed to clone my drive and install it. I also watched one of their videos which showed step by step installation, etc,

My original drive was a 64gb ssd. I now have 500gb and am able to do many more things with the Macbook Air.

The only negative is that my old drive was faster. In particular I notice that my boot times are about ten to fifteen seconds longer than before.

However, the installation of the operating system took forever because the website that the OS comes from did not work. I have done this install three times and the problem arose on my second and third install. I was able to overcome the issue but it took a lot of research and multiple hours. The first time I did this....the process was flawless and it only took a short time to install the OS.

Rating: 5/5 Great find June 1, 2015 Great shopping experience. Left the order on Friday (to Finland) and it arrived on Monday. You really can't beat that.

Having only 18GB left on my original SSD HD I found this 480 GB SSD from OWC. There would've been also 1 TB available but thought that this would do plus the old one with the case that comes along with the OWC new HD, so 730 GB all together currently.

Did have some trouble during installation trying to use a shortcut but you really should follow the instructions. Once did that, everything was very smooth and fast.

The only trouble I had was that the other screw driver that came along didn't fit the screw in the HD. Fortunately was able to overcome that and everything just works great, couldn't be happier, especially when statistics show that newer models are actually slower than this mid -11 model.

Rating: 5/5 Very satisfied with this product March 8, 2015 I received my Aurora Pro promptly and, after backing up my OEM drive on two different external HDs, proceeded to install the new drive following the video instructions provided by OWC. It was super easy, taking less than 10 minutes to do the physical installation. There were a few anxious moments when Time Machine failed to perform as advertised (by Apple), but then I booted up in Restore mode, and re-installed the system software via the Internet (very handy indeed). The machine runs very smoothly, no bugs so far. Having 480 GB as opposed to 50 is a huge plus, and I would recommend this product to anyone who has been frustrated by Apple's measly 60 GB drives. Rating: 1/5 Incredibly Unreliable January 20, 2015 I had very high hopes for this product, it seemed to tick all the right boxes as a replacement for the stock Apple SSD that comes with the MacBook Air 2010. Initial setup was easy, and the product worked precisely as advertised in the laptop.

Unfortunately, after 10 months of use, the drive failed completely with no warning. One minute it was working perfectly, the next it wasn't recognised by the laptop or any other devices I attempted to use for recovery. A replacement drive was my hope for renewed peace.

Another 12 months down the line, and the replacement drive has died in exactly the same manner. No warning, no recovery, simply dead with no ability to recover any data (thank you backups!).

Usage is certainly not excessive, it's a personal laptop used for day-to-day activities, no intensive usage, certainly nothing to make it reach it's MTBF so quickly.

Disappointing. Very Disappointing.

Response from MacSales.com, Customer Service January 20, 2015 Solid state drives have no moving parts, so there's less warning on pending failures as there were with platter-based hard drives. When they fail, they just stop - as you've experienced. That just increases the importance of keeping regular backups - and we're so glad to hear that you do. Sorry to hear that your OWC SSD failed in about the same timeframe as the original SSD in your MacBook Air. MTBF is an average, some happen sooner than average, many much later. Several other factors can also contribute aside from usage such as humidity, shock, temperature fluctuations, etc. In any event, that's exactly why the drive is backed by a 5 year warranty. We'll be sure to get you back up an running as soon as possible.

Appart from the too high 20% tax I had to pay on arrival :( I'm totally satisfied. It's too bad that just a week after I received the memory OWC announced a 1TB SSD... I would definitely have chosen that one.

Rating: 5/5 Long Lasting with Great Performance November 16, 2014 Having purchased this in mid-2012, I have been enjoying the extra storage greatly! I haven't had anything to complain about with this drive and installation was a breeze.

The support from OWC has been great, they are friendly folks and are always willing to answer questions about their products, even in their after-sales service, when there isn't any obvious extra money for them to make!

My two tips for folks looking to install this themselves, first, have a look through www.macsales.com/static to make sure you don't damage anything (invest in a wrist strap guys!), and secondly, while the system is open, have your tools above it, in the opposite direction to the battery. This is so you never are holding your screws or screwdrivers over the soft cells of the battery, because you DO NOT want to drop sharp metal things on them! :) Even better, use the bottom case to cover the battery if you can. better safe than sorry!
