High-Bandwidth and Flexibility for Demanding Hi-Res Needs

Pro-level docking stations should be ready to handle any situation that you encounter in a production workflow. The OWC Thunderbolt 3 Pro Dock is your on-location and post production "mission control" with an unrivaled combination of super-fast 10Gb Ethernet, CFast and SD card readers, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, three USB 3.1 ports, and full support for eSATA devices and drives.
With this unique productivity configuration, you can upload and work with 4/8K RAW video and RAW photo files immediately at speeds up to 370MB/s. Collaborate in a shared workflow environment via the 10Gb Ethernet port to keep your projects streaming from file setup to final renders with headroom to spare. Add a second 4K monitor via the DisplayPort interface or a 5K monitor connected to the second Thunderbolt 3 port. Daisy chain up to six Thunderbolt devices. All while powering your laptop and managing the typical USB 3.1 devices you need to get the job done.

Add Media Versatility to DIT Carts

When you're on location, your cart needs the power of versatility. With conveniently accessible front-side CFast and SD 4.0 card readers, the Thunderbolt 3 Pro Dock helps you manage multiple card uploads efficiently. 1. Thunderbolt 2/Thunderbolt compatibility requires a certified Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 (mDP) adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 cable. This configuration provides data transfer at Thunderbolt 2 speeds (up to 20Gb/s) but does not support notebook charging.
    2. The eSATA port and the CFast reader share a single PCIe Gen 2 lane, as do the USB ports and the SD card reader. The maximum transfer rate for a single PCIe Gen 2 lane is about 370MB/s, which means that any device connected to these interfaces cannot go faster than 370 MB/s. When multiple devices are used simultaneously, the bandwidth is shared.
    3. This product was designed for use with the fan on and passed engineering tests with the fan on. There is a fan switch to turn off the fan when a low-noise environment is needed. However, the device should only be used for short periods of time with the fan in the OFF position, as prolonged use may cause the device to overheat. Overheating can result in damage to the system, cause issues to data integrity, reduce system reliability and/or shorten the lifespan of the electrical components. For best results, it is recommended not to use the device continuously for more than 30 minutes with the fan in the OFF position.
    4. Resolutions and refresh rates will vary depending upon hardware, connections, and OS in use. Dock does not support display daisy-chains via MST (Multi-Stream Transport).
    5. Dual display support, including available resolution and refresh rates, is dependent on host hardware and drivers.
      - Apple silicon M1/M2/M3 Pro, M1/M2/M3 Max, and M1/M2 Ultra Mac models, Apple Intel-based Mac models, and Thunderbolt 4 PCs can support up to two displays at up to 4K @ 60Hz via Thunderbolt.
      - Apple silicon M1/M2/M3 Mac models can support one external display up to 4K @ 60Hz via Thunderbolt.

    Big improvement

Speed very much improved over the Thunderbolt 3 dock and the fan is silent.

DECENT UNIT WITH MUCH NEEDED FEATURES, BUT POWER UP SEQUENCE ISSUES

My Computer: 2019 MAC BOOK PRO, obtained in 2021, (Intel 8 core I-9, BigSur 11.13.1) Length of testing - about 2 days. Issue: System will not fully boot up unless the laptop is powered ON before the dock is powered, OR if the laptop is initially OFF, AND the AC power is applied to the doc, then it MAY boot (caveats below). If there are NO drives attached to the dock (e.g. USB NVMe, eSATA or USB-3 SSD), computer WILL boot when power is applied to the dock (AC on). The computer is signaled by the TB cable and starts the boot process. When booted and logged in, other drives may then be attached to the dock. (I use a bluetooth powered remote to switch the AC power to the DOCK for a low-inrush application of AC. There is no power switch on the dock.) BOOT ISSUES with DRIVES ATTACHED, Powering up Dock and Computer Simultaneously — With a USB-NVMe SSD, OR an eSATA drive connected to the DOCK, the computer will hang partway in boot up after the computer is started when it detects power is applied to the DOCK. -- When it hangs, power must be removed from the DOCK {and may be required to press the POWER ON button on laptop to continue to boot}. TO SUCCESSFULLY POWER UP THE DOCK with DRIVES ATTACHED: — Power the laptop up with the DOCK AC power off — When fully booted, apply AC power to the dock (I use a remote switch for AC power) — NVME drive may be attached to the dock before power up — eSATA drive may be attached to the dock and “warm” (DC power pre-appled to the drive) e.g. Guardian Maximus USB/eSATA/FW800 drive. Some drives may not start "warm". — USB SSD may be connected to the doc (e.g. ATOMOS NINJA compatible SSD) This issue SHOULD BE ADDRESSED by a firmware update. This a nuisance to have the dock powered off in the middle of the laptop boot sequence. If there were no similar doc with eSATA connections and TB-3, I would return this unit for this design feature. If there were a USB controlled AC power switch available, an automatic start method could be assembled. I might recommend this product if you need the high speed features and eSATA ports. I have an older OWC TB-2 doc with Firewire800 (no longer an option in the current OWC lineup) that worked on my older laptop, It has no such power on issue. I cannot test the high speed internet connection, nor the CFAST card slot at this time. 12-4-2021

    10G Ethernet is so nice!

Definitely the best way to get the ultra fast speed of 10G Ethernet into your laptop for video editing and large file transfers. So much better than gigabit. You can actually do offline 4K editing straight from the server with this thunderbolt 3 dock.

I would recommend this product to a friend!
