Rating: 5/5 Recommended Tool July 17, 2019 I fail-clicked a partition on a primary backup drive and formatted the wrong one. Total loss, I thought. Awful. With Prosoft Eng.'s Data Rescue 5, I recovered nearly all data. Some trouble with items at /root, spinning out some orphaned files from a couple installer disk images, renaming files numerically - data was present, but no longer useful as an installer. Further up the directory tree (one mere folder and beyond) I recovered 100% of my files within correct organizational structure, including all other disk images not stored at /root. I was amazed. Fantastic purchase. Cons: recovering files from external disk takes many hours (internal SATA took 80% less time, otherwise a full day to scan, compile and re-write about 750GB). Also, Time Machine backup was non-recoverable - tried in Mohave and High Sierra. Prosoft expressly states Mohave 10.14+ will not grant permissions for Time Machine image/folders; I could not get it to work with H Sierra. Inquire with OWC tech or Prosoft if you absolutely need Apple's proprietary TM backup recovered. There may be a work-around. Strong buy recommendation. Thank you, Prosoft. Thank you, OWC.

Rating: 5/5 did the job! December 28, 2018 I'd moved house and in the move my backup disk failed. Whilst I was troubleshooting, my primary disk also failed, which was on an OWC extended volume. The software retrieved all 4.4TB of data!

It took a while to do the scan, but once data was found, the restore to a new disk was quite quick.
