  1. 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending upon operating environment (typically 5-10% less). The actual total capacity will depend on your own defined file settings/preferences.
  2. In terms of standard gigabytes, 1GiB ≈ 1.074GB and refers to the actual formatted capacity of shown under Mac OS 10.5 or earlier and Microsoft Windows OS.
  3. Specific application environments such as temperature and duty cycle will affect the overall reliability rates.
  4. While this drive is the same Toshiba part number as offered by Apple in some of their computers, it is not an Apple-branded drive. As such, TRIM is not natively supported under OS X.

Rating: 5/5 512GB Toshiba SSD 2.5-inch 9.5mm SATA 3.0Gb/s Solid-State Drive November 4, 2016 I purchased this SSD for an elderly 17-inch MacBook Pro, which had a smaller HDD as standard fitment. This laptop is still in use today but as an office device. Its size & weight do not make it suitable for laptop use. It used to get quite hot. Its replacement SSD boosted the laptop's performance, which gave it new life. It also made it cooler.

The 17-inch MacBooks have long since been discontinued but upgraded they can still provide reliable service although modern laptops, even basic models, leave my 32-bit 17-inch, 2GB MacBook Pro behind in performance terms and in portability.

I can recommend an SSD transplant as a cost effective solution compared with buying a newer MacBook..

Rating: 5/5 Excelently priced SSD October 21, 2012 Great value for money, lowest priced 512gb SSD I have seen. I managed to get 2 before they sold out, if they come back into stock I would highly recommend buying a few, I know I will. Read/write speeds approximately 3-4x higher than my 7200rpm HDD's.

Rating: 5/5 Works perfect on Macbook Pro 2010 October 4, 2012 On my macbook pro works perfect, with disk speed tedt I get this: 180 mb/s write and 210 m/s read, not so bad . Start up on 15 s , becasue I have alots stauff on in, before was 1.30 minutes start up. All work perfect and very fast, I copy 2.66 GB mov from my RAID to my SSD only on 10 s. at 166MB / s. read/copy. Very good value. There is fasters SSD but for the price is good enought for me, oslo my macbook pro 2010 is 3Gb/s is useless use 6Gb/s. I save money at best speed I can get.

Rating: 5/5 Best upgrade ever. September 30, 2012 I found out the new Macs were not upgradable (SSD models) so I saved a bundle and bought a late 2011, bumped it to 16GB Ram and this SSD drive was too good to pass up. Easy cloning and installation thanks to OWCs videos. Windows in Parallels boots fast. IPhoto opens in a flash and video tasks are quick. Love the drive, Love OWC. 2 day shipping took 1 day!
