Configuration flexibility is yours when you replace your MacBook or MacBook Pro's internal SuperDrive with the OWC Data Doubler. This custom engineered blue anodized aluminum bracket with attached PCB circuit board comes ready to mount the included drive.
Then, just install the entire assembly into a MacBook or MacBook Pro 5.25" optical drive bay. OWC Data Doubler makes it easy to custom design how you want your internal storage to perform. Installed drives are recognized like any other high speed SATA storage device and can be setup and partitioned using the Apple Disk Utility Program.

Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger

Add significant space for storage, greater speeds for retrieval and saving of data, your machine will wake-up and boot and launch apps faster. With this much space, you have MORE than enough room to keep all your data under one roof.

Take Your Time Machine With You!

Now, with all this available capacity, you can designate one of the drives as the Time Machine backup so your Time Machine is not relying on you to remember to plug in the dedicated external drive. Use the drive as a single partition or divide it and designate a partition to run Time Machine.

RAID

RAID your drives for increased speed or security. RAID 0 will give you an immediate and significant speed boost - you won't believe how fast your computer wakes up and launches your apps! RAID 1 creates automatic redundancy to safeguard against primary drive failure and data loss.

Still Need an Occasional Optical?

If you decide you need occasional use of your optical drive, you can purchase the
OWC SuperSlim Enclosure. This is a USB 2.0, bus-powered option for users who need a lightweight, portable optical drive.

Power Tip

Spin-down hard drives sooner to save battery power. Running an extra hard drive in your laptop can drain battery power faster than a single drive. But you can tell your Mac to put hard drives to sleep sooner than normal to save power.
This is an advanced tip that requires working in Terminal. For the step-by-step explanation,
  1. Please note, that before attempting to perform this installation, it is recommended you watch the associated instructional video in its entirety to determine your ability to perform this complex procedure. OWC assumes no responsibility for damage that may occur during the install. Technical support for this DIY product consists only of the installation video.

1 TB of memory feels amazing

As a music producer and photography, internal space has always been an issue. Not anymore! This data doubler kit is phenomenal. All you have to do is follow their online videos and within 20 minutes, you have more space than you know what to do with.

I would recommend this product to a friend!

    Intense but gratifying

This is actually a fairly easy upgrade when taken one step at a time! Again the install video helped greatly. If I remember there is one or two delicate operations such as removing a ribbon connector which was a little sticky. I got the 5 piece mini toolkit which makes the job easier. After install all worked well but the disk would eject for no apparent reason. This problem has not recurred after I upgraded to the next OS.

Best computer upgrade I've ever done

Since I can't get another 17" MacBook Pro, I needed to upgrade performance on my 2011 machine. This kit was simple to install (1.5 hours start to finish) and after I upgraded to current system software before migrating everything from the drive I moved to the optical bay. Now the machine boots up in 12 seconds and simply screams through app opening and closing. The drive I moved to the optical bay is sitting there as a full backup for now but have never needed it. It sits there quietly after spin down waiting for me. This SSD is a revelation, I would have done it long ago if I had known. Once I'm more familiar with the new system, I'm going to move all music and pix to the SSD for almost instant access. Don't hesitate if you're undecided, it's the best investment you can make on a laptop. I didn't even need to add memory, 8 gig is plenty, and since the processor swaps with disc memory if I ever go over RAM, it's using the SSD which is just as fast. Top that off with the second drive onboard and my laptop just earned another 5 years of far upgraded utility and durability for pocket change. 5 stars, guarantee you won't regret it.

I would recommend this product to a friend!
