Add a Second Drive to Your Mac mini

Use the OWC Data Doubler to replace the internal SuperDrive in your Mac mini with an OWC solid-state drive (SSD). This DIY kit includes all the tools necessary to complete the installation of the Data Doubler and the new drive. Coupled with our free installation videos that offer step-by-step instructions, you can perform the entire upgrade on your own.
OWC Data Doubler makes it easy to custom design how you want your internal storage to perform. Installed drives are recognized like any other high speed SATA storage device and can be setup and partitioned using the Apple Disk Utility Program.

Bigger, Better, Stronger

The Mac mini is already an amazing feat of engineering, and you can pack even more power inside it with the OWC Data Doubler and an OWC Mercury Electra 3G SSD. An OWC SSD is simply the best way to expand capability of your already powerful Mac mini. And even better, you can do it yourself!

Just a few of the configuration options you can enjoy with Data Doubler:

  • Combining a new drive with the existing internal drive for one larger volume (SPAN).
  • Combining a new matching drive with existing internal for high-performance RAID-0 Stripe volume.
  • Configuring a new drive as a Time Machine backup drive.
  • Formatting one drive for the Mac OS and the other dedicated for Windows.

Yes, You Can Do-It-Yourself

OWC is committed to your success. If you need a bit more guidance, simply contact OWC's award-winning U.S. based Technical Support. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
While OWC encourages the DIY philosophy, this is a challenging install that requires advanced skills. If, after watching the how-to video, you are not fully confident of your ability to perform the installation, you can choose to have OWC "Do It For You" via our Apple Mac mini Installation Service.

    2TB OWC Mercury Electra 3G 2.5-inch 7mm SATA 3.0Gb/s Solid-State Drive

    1. 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending upon operating environment (typically 5-10% less). The actual total capacity will depend on your own defined file settings/preferences.
    2. Temperature reporting is currently an unsupported feature because due to the operating characteristics of SSDs, it is highly unlikely one would ever exceed an OWC Mercury SSD's stated operating temperature ceiling of 158F/70C. However, we are looking into supporting this feature in the future via a firmware update. Firmware updates can be found here: http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/OWC/SSD.
