My 2014 iMac went down right before Christmas. I ordered a refurbished iMac that would run Ventura. It arrived on schedule, booted right up, and downloaded/installed Ventura without a problem. I also ordered the tool kit for opening an iMac. Directions on the video were clear, and the tools worked fine. I extracted the drive, placed it in an external caddy, and the new iMac found it right away as an external drive. I didn't lose a byte! (Oddly enough, I swapped in an old 3.5-inch drive from a Windows laptop rebuild into the old iMac, and it booted right up under Recovery. So I haven't figured out why it crashed in the first place. When I get the time I'll order an SSD and more memory from OWC for the old iMac and make it the house computer. OWC is a great resource to have in your corner if you want to keep your Macs running.
