Disappointing. It lasted less than twenty days.

I was excited by the prospect of speeding the performance of my aging Mac, and for a while this SSD worked as advertised. I was not running anything especially taxing and the drive was nowhere near full. Then one day it refused to mount. There was a corrupted file somewhere and the Disk Utility could not repair it. So, I had to spend a few days after work extracting data and rebuilding my desktop from scratch. Tech support was okay— they were polite and all—but I did not think they had anything to offer beyond what I could do on my own. Plus, I didn’t have time to mail them the drive. Instead, I’m going to return it. YMMV, but there are too many variables for me and it still seems as though this technology is not yet robust enough to trusted.

    Awesome SSD'S!

I ordered three 4 TB SSD's, which are perfect for my storage needs in the music recording business. I use one for recording, the second one for backing up, and the third for a sample library, which includes orchestral libraries. So far, they seem to perform flawlessly.

I would recommend this product to a friend!

Best drives on the market. Built like tanks and super fast file transfers

I had never experienced OWC products until this year (2024). Anyways, I do have the experience of using outboard hard drives from most of the big brands. Though there are brands I prefer for reliability (Samsung is hard to beat), I have been pleasantly surprised how the OWC Envoy has changed my perspective on who makes the best external hard drives in the entire market. This drive is something I would make if I could. It so very well built and performs at amazing speeds. Moreover, it works seamlessly with my MacBook Pro 16 M2. The majority of use my Envoy gets is transferring video files. The first time I used this drive it blew me away at its speed. I mean I knew I was getting a fast drive, but wow. Before my Envoy(s) - yes I have more than one now - I was cherishing my Samsung T7 Shields. But they are now strictly for backup, as it’s a whole new world using my Envoys. I drop all my video edits onto my Envoys, edit right from the Envoys itself and transferring files between my Mac and the Envoys is a luxury I can’t live without. The only thing I can’t attest to is longevity. But from what I’ve read, this company does not build junk at any level. And I’m really glad I discovered them along with the fact they design so much stuff to work with Mac in a reliable way. It is now very difficult to consider other brands. My only con is cost. This sits at or near the top of the food chain as do most of their products. But, if the quality commensurates then I can’t help but recommend OWC. Higher quality items are sometimes worth paying a little extra for as some things in life that we do, require them.

I would recommend this product to a friend!
