Daisy chaining over Thunderbolt has a six-device maximum per bus. Refer to the manufacture specifications of your host to determine the number of Thunderbolt buses and associated ports.
While Daisy chaining multiple Thunderbolt devices does allow for additional connectivity with other types of ports. No more than six Thunderbolt devices can be chained or connected due to the bus limitation. The host system capabilities for data transfer, power, and performance are shared with chained devices. Chaining multiple devices together can reduce data transfer speeds, limit power provided, or diminish device performance.
Best practice for optimal performance of devices is to directly connect into the host port(s). Hub type devices should be connected at the end of a daisy chain.
