NuPower 60W USB-C Power Adapter: Battery Drain

It has been reported that in rare cases, if this NuPower 60W USB-C Power Adapter is used to charge a laptop, it will charge the battery to 100% and stay that way for a time (maybe as much as a couple hours or more). However, if the adapter is left connected for several more hours, the battery may unexpectedly drain to 0% charge.

The problem is not easily reproduced and only seems to occur when used with specific host and operating system combinations. So far we are able to conclude this may happen with MacBookPro13,2 models running 10.13.4. However, when tested on similar generation MacBookPro models with 10.13.5, so far we are unable to reproduce the problem. We believe this issue is related to a combination of the chipset in this device (which cannot be updated) and Apple's USB Power Delivery implementation, which can change from one OS version to the next.

We are building a list of what works and what doesn't, but this will take some time due to the intermittent nature of the issue. In the meantime, you may want to share with your reseller contacts or customer contacts the suggestion that once a device is 100% charged, it's best to disconnect the power reasonably soon thereafter (e.g. do not leave it connected overnight).
