Power Disable HDD Compatibility w/ OWC Enclosures

Created on: April 28, 2023

Select SATA and SAS HDDs contain a feature called Power Disable. The Power Disable feature allows the host system to perform a remote hard reset to the hard drive. This can be useful for resolving some drive issues without manually disconnecting and connecting the HDD. The Power Disable feature requires a unique circuit board (PCBa) that is designed to support the Power Disable feature. Older circuit boards may not support Power Disable HDDs resulting in the drive not receiving power.

OWC enclosures are compatible and will provide power to HDDs that have the Power Disable feature. However, the Power Disable feature won’t be functional and users will not have the ability to remotely hard reset the HDD.
