Writers, developers, and others who often find themselves typing the same words and phrases repeatedly have had a friend on the Mac for years: Smile’s TextExpander. The company has released TextExpander 5, an update to the app designed specifically for Mac OS X Yosemite.
TextExpander 5 has a new feature that’s sure to improve everyone’s productivity and typing speed: the app now makes suggestions of frequently typed phrases through notifications and a “Suggested Snippets” folder. For example, an author writing a book about TextExpander 5 might use that phrase hundreds or thousands of times. The app will now make a suggestion to create a snippet, perhaps “TE5”, to lop off 11 characters everytime the writer uses the snippet.
TextExpander 5 also adds reminders, letting you know when you forget to use one of your snippets. The update provides support for JavaScript for Automation, as well as JavaScript that works with the iOS version of TextExpander — TextExpander Touch.
The app is available from the Smile Store online for US$44.95, but current TextExpander users can take advantage of the new features for $19.95.
