about602

Software updates for an operating system shouldn’t be surprising in the modern computing age, but this recent update certainly caught us at the Rocket Yard off guard. After more than 22 years, Apple IIgs System 6.0.1 has received an update to 6.0.2 with “many bugs fixed and many features added.”

No, Apple hasn’t decided to resurrect its work on the operating system. A group of Apple IIgs fans are responsible for the upgrade and even hint at a 6.0.3 update “in a month or so”.

So, if you’ve been looking for an excuse to dust off the likely several inches of dust from your IIgs, now would be the perfect time.

You can read more about the “proof-of-concept” update (free for download) and its features here: callapple.org/software/announcing-apple-iigs-system-6-0-2/

  • This made me chuckle! Had a Performa 6300CD running OS 7.5 that I recently gave to my daughter–it’s still running fine. I had done some tweaks to the OS that made it really fast and stable and loved that machine and that OS. Kudos to you and your 11GS!! Now I’m running 3 G4’s–2 laptops and a dual 1Ghz desktop.
