If you have been a Rocket Yard reader for any length of time, you know that this blog has never existed to merely prop up OWC or MacSales.com. We highly value our role in bringing you a wide variety of expert tips, commentary, reviews, and the latest tech news. However, we do take great pride in who we are and what we do as a company, and as the reviews for the new OWC Envoy Pro EX USB-C keep pouring in, we thought we’d engage in a little unapologetic sharing!
What the Experts are Saying
“…insanely fast speed for a device of this type.”
“…almost no deviation in performance for the entire 2TB capacity written continuously. This is a jaw-droppingly good performance suitable for just about any task.”
On June 25th, OWC announced the release of the Envoy Pro EX USB-C SSD, claiming it was the fastest USB-C SSD ever built and brought to market. Well-respected photographer, computer expert, and software engineer Lloyd Chambers of Mac Performance Guide put that claim to the test. Here is what he found…
Large Transfer Sustained Performance
With an average write speed of 1043 MB/sec and average read speed of 1040 MB/sec, Chambers says he has never seen performance this high from any USB-A or USB-C device before. He was able to continuously write the entire 2TB capacity with almost zero deviation in performance.
Incredible!

I wish we had a reasonably priced Envoy level external SSD made for thunderbolt 3 speeds. When will OWC or someone else offer this? What would be the speed advantage of a Thunderbolt 3 connected SSD maximized for Thunderbolt 3 throughput in a small size like Envoy?
Especially considering the price.
Competing USB-C NVMe enclosures are only $20.
Please, include QuickBench benchmarks for all your SSD web pages, as you used to do in the past. That is very useful to choose the best one.
Great. Bring larger capacities (4, 8 & 16 TB).
